With the landing of Alessandro Michele down at Gucci, the aesthetics of the luxury fashion house has changed immensely in somewhat positive, eccentric way. It seemed that sexy, bohemian or fairy girl could not have any other new competitors, but Alessandro Michele’s nerdy girl came as if a fresh breeze to prove all and sundry that there is still much undiscovered. Nerdy girl was not the only novelty brought forward by the extravagant Italian designer. A new variation of GG Supreme Canvas bag was originated getting the appellation of Gucci Dionysus bag with two-layered chain adjustable strap and a double tiger head closure as a reference to the Greek God Dionysus, who crossed the River Tigris on a large tiger. And now that the holiday season is under way Gucci is dropping a bombshell by the forthcoming launch of the iconic Gucci Dionysus City bags dedicated to 8 cities, those megalopolises, where the life brims over the edge.
Come January the eight Gucci flagship stores located in Rome, New York, London, Paris, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Dubai will sell exclusive Dionysus bags varying in design from city to city. The Londoners are undeniably to be tickled pink by Dionysus bag decorated with a snake, roses and a butterfly, the New York streets will be teeming with Dionysus bags featuring a pair of lips, hearts and pink lightning bolts, while for Dubai Alessandro Michele has concocted bags embellished with a starfish and dragonflies. On the other hand, Tokyo ladies will be treated to iconic Dionysus bags adorned with soft pink flowers and green lightning bolts.
When looking inside the bags, one will find the same leather patch with a bee motif on which the name of the city is printed. Along with it, the patches are different in colors: Tokyo’s is pink, Rome’s is teal, Dubai’s is green, Hong Kong’s is burgundy, Paris’s is white, New York’s is bougainvillea, Shanghai’s is red, and London’s is blue. It is worth mentioning that earlier this month Gucci launched a Dionysus City bag dedicated to its motherland city Milan trimmed with a red snake, flowers and a honey bee collecting nectar from the flower, while the inside bee patch is in dark orange shade.
Gucci is still staying hush-hush about the prices of the Dionysus City Bags, but taking into account the price of regular Dionysus bag being somewhat between $2,250 and $2,598 and the fact that the collection will be limited edition, we can guess that the Gucci Dionysus City bags will retail at something around $3000 or more.
