Weddings are the most important events in a woman’s life, where she leaves her parents’ home and begins a new nest with the partner of her choice. With her getting ready to say “I Do” before a crowd of family and friends, expressing undying love for the man she chooses to marry, but there are certain bridal beauty “don’ts” to beware of. The aim is to make sure the day is smooth sailing, with nary a storm in sight. This includes perfection in the dress, venue, church, reception, food, makeup, flowers, drinks, music and every other department you can think of. There’s so much to plan and so very much to get done before the big day that it’s almost certain something will end up going wrong. It’s rather impossible to get an even going without a hitch.
When it comes to your bridal beauty routine, there are no doors barred. You will make sure you follow every rule in the book to make sure you look positively stunning. The problem with that is something those rules are in exact contradiction to what you should be doing. You’ve read every beauty manual out there, scanned magazines for beauty tips, checked out the best facials around but still there’s something off. Certain things you should steer clear of trying before the big day though, and this list of bridal beauty mistakes might help.
1. You do not want to become a bronze goddess: The thought sounds wonderful, if not downright perfect, but the moment you hit that self-tanner, you’re courting disaster. Tanning beds can be far too dangerous for your sensitive skin and instead of looking sun-kissed bronze, you might just end up looking orange, or worse yet, with streaks of bronze, orange and white all around. Nor would you want to look as red as a lobster because that’s just got to hurt! Might make your wedding night painfully awkward as well. Just skip the tanning bed, really. Instead, make sure you’ve been getting a healthy sun-kissed glow that you maintain throughout the months.
2. You should skip that trip to the salon: If you had facials, microdermabrasion, chemical peels or something of the like planned before your wedding, do yourself a favour and simply don’t even touch it with a 10 foot pole. Your face is more likely to get irritated before it gets better which will just ruin your look for the wedding. Instead, give your skin a few days of rest and pamper yourself in other ways. Your spa treatments should be done weeks in advance.
3. Don’t go for a drastic new haircut: You really don’t want to ruin your hair by getting all excited about trying a new ‘do. Instead, wait for after the wedding or try it well in advance, perhaps a few months in advance, to make sure your hair has grown back in or had time to heal just in case it doesn’t look as great as you thought it would. Plus, with whichever new style you choose, you will need time to fall in love, so doing it way before the wedding sounds like the better plan.
4. Keep the at-home waxing for the professionals: Keep far away from using your DIY waxing kits on your face because those mismatched eyebrows and upper-lip blunders are going to be showing up on your wedding photos! You really don’t want the redness and irritation, nor any tell-tale bumps around your facial features. You want to look perfect so get it done by a professional. And for your own sake, use threading instead of waxing for optimal results.
5. Don’t pop those pimples: As hard as it may be, this is a no-brainer if you want flawless skin. Honestly, don’t pop it. Just let it be unless you want swollen red skin. Instead, let it go down on its own, without picking at it like a child who can’t keep her hands away from the candy. Instead, just get a lot of sleep, stay hydrated and keep your skin moisturized. A balanced diet will do you a world of good as well!
6. Keep away from teeth whitening: A dazzling smile will be perfect at the wedding but you won’t feel the same way if you have your teeth too sensitive to the food, the drinks and everything in between. You should give your pearly pretty teeth at least 2 weeks of recovery time before the wedding so that you won’t be wincing as you sip champagne. The thought of feeling pain while you’re supposed to be happiest is shuddering. Best keep away from such things during the week before the wedding.
7. Absolutely no Botox: Why in God’s almighty name you would want to even touch Botox before your wedding we don’t know but steer far away from it. A quick injection may sound positively perfect, but it is the furthest thing from the truth. This procedure is quite serious and can have lasting effects that may not exactly be too attractive. Even if you have some fine lines here and there, those little wrinkles will not do you any harm while an injection can leave you regretting this day for the rest of your life.
8. Don’t even try to justify a juice cleanse: There are better ways to cleanse the body of toxins and juice cleanses are certainly not at the top of the list. You will be putting on a few pounds before your wedding, both because of the stress and because of all those parties and great food you will not be denying yourself. You normally only get one shot at this so you should be enjoying every last moment of your planning stages, from the bachelorette to the cake tasting sessions. Even the little get-togethers to celebrate your move into a new chapter of your life can leave you feeling stuffed. You certainly don’t want to be a hungry angry bride, so a crash diet will definitely not work. Instead, just try to eat healthy and make sure the dress has room for a few more pounds so that you still get to look amazing in it.
9. You certainly don’t need any body wraps: They do promise to shed inches off your waist and have you looking amazing but it’s a little too good to be true. They are very relaxing and you can definitely go for it if you are making sure you keep hydrated enough, but at the end of the day, they don’t do much good and you certainly don’t want dry and cracked skin on your wedding day. A few extra pounds might look good on you actually, but that irritated, dry skin certainly won’t.
10. No need to get aggressive at the gym: You might want to tone up your arms and legs and work on your core before your wedding but going really aggressive right before is a bad idea. You might want to start slow and go from there. You should be prepared for muscle fatigue and soreness as well. Which bride wants to be sore as she walks down the aisle though? You want to be able to dance the night away and neither limp nor wince throughout those magical few hours before the start of a new life.
11. Watch the foods you eat: Wine, dark colored food and similar dark ingestible bits that stay should be avoided to keep the teeth white. Sodium-rich foods should also be avoided to avoid bloating. It’s one thing to enjoy a meal; it’s another to forget about being careful about your diet. Going on a slight cleansing diet during the 2-3 weeks before your wedding might actually help keep your body in tip-top shape.
12. Don’t sit around in your bra on the morning of your wedding: This is probably one of the best pieces of advice you can ever hear. Most of us will put on a bra from the moment we wake up that morning and by the time we are getting dressed in our gowns, our bodies look pinched and there are angry pink indents on our shoulders. Strapless dresses especially will not look so good if your body is still trying to fill out those pinched regions. You might also want to take an Advil if you are not used to putting your hair up and know you will probably get a headache throughout the night.
