Make sure your cleaning procedure is in tune with your skin problems and type. It must include a quality makeup remover, a cleanser, a toner, and you can also extend your skincare routine to essences, serums, and ampoules.

Finish the process with a daytime or nighttime moisturizing cream. Once you commit to this ritual and repeat it regularly, you will notice your skin thanking you by being soft, clean and free of the tiny problem of pores.

Remember that even if you haven’t applied any makeup, your face still needs cleaning from the grease and dust. Keep in mind to be very gentle when handling your skin, don’t stretch or press it too hard, otherwise you might damage it.

3. Stay Hydrated

We all know a good level of hydration is an important part of almost any beauty routine. However, it’s also important to know that drinking water is not the only way to keep your skin hydrated. Use a quality hydrating serum before your moisturizer. As dermatologist and president of Amarte, Craig Kraffert suggests, the hydrating serum will make your skin plump, which will close the pores to close and let in less unwanted dirt.

4. Use a Moisturizer

There is a reason why the moisturizing effect is mentioned as a top benefit in many makeup products. It means that’s a treatment your skin really needs. And although you should give your preference to cosmetic products that do have moisturizing effects on your skin, you should also invest in a moisturizing cream for daily use… twice a day.

Your skin produces oils to keep your skin moisturized, but if it gets dry, the production gets under an emergency state, and your skin starts producing these oils uncontrollably. And that, my friend, results not only in more pores, but also acne. Give a hand to your skin with a moisturizing cream, even on your day offs, because every day is a working day for your skin.

5. Protect Your Skin from the Sun

While we get many benefits from staying out in the sun, the line between the advantages and harmful effects is very thin. If you’re planning to expose your facial skin to the sun for too long, make sure you have a sunscreen in your purse.

Exposing your face to UV radiation means giving your pores a permission to expand. Don’t complain about them later. Thankfully, there are many cosmetic products like foundations and primers that contain sunscreen, so you can always combine your makeup with protection from the sun. Win-win!

6. Refresh Your Skin Cells: Exfoliate

A shocking truth for some, you are actually carrying lots of dead skin cells on your face daily. This is one of the reasons why your pores get clogged. Try preventing it by using a cleanser that contains a low concentration of salicylic acid (also great for preventing acne) or lactic acid. Exfoliate daily, but if you notice signs of irritation and redness, switch to 3 or 2 times a week.

7. Add Retinol to Your Beauty Routine

When shopping for skincare and makeup products, read the ingredient lists and give a product a try if it contains Retinol. Products with retinoids as an ingredient usually boost your cell turnover, which results in minimizing pores.

8. Get Addicted to the Steamy Moisturizer

A single visit to a sauna won’t do the job, but a herbal steam might help minimize the pores. Take a bowl of really hot steamy water, add natural herbal ingredients based on your skin type and other issues you might be experiencing. Some of the best additions are rose petals, lavender, basil, rosemary, and even tea tree oil if you have acne (be careful, as this one might stink). Cover the water with a towel until it’s ready for use.

Make sure your hair is in a bun or nowhere near your face. Get your head under the towel and inhale the steam. If you used some of the best ingredients, the scent of the steam should also be a great aromatherapy.

Steaming is an all-natural way of moisturizing your skin, and the additional ingredients are meant for extra power. Once done, rinse your skin and dry it with a clean soft towel very gently. Your skin has become very sensitive because of the steam, so avoid harsh movements.

9. The Good Old Ice Cube

We’ve all heard about the ice cube trick that can minimize the pores instantly. Well, there is a bit of both truth and fiction here. The ice cube stretches your skin, making your powers minimize. However, it is not a permanent solution to your problem and does not last long. You can easily use this trick if you’re getting ready for a date and don’t have time for a full skincare procedure, but remember to try more serious treatments later.

For now, you can wrap an ice cube in thin fabric and run it over your skin. This will reduce the level of oils your skin produces for the time being.

10. Eat Healthy

Finally, it all comes down to eating healthy. No matter how much you take care of your skin from the outside, what you put in your body is even more important. A good portion of our appearance depends on our eating habits and diets, and you do have perfect control over it.

Consume more whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. Skip coffee, sugar-based drinks and alcohol. Reduce the intake of dairy products, as they might cause acne breakouts. Anything else that contains Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Vitamin B is on our team. Having said this, act smart about your purchases, not every orange is packed with a healthy dose of Vitamin C. Scout for organic products to maximize the effect of these goodies.
