We’ve been seeing and reading so much about Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid this year that it seemed obvious that one of them will be announced as the best model of the year. If you remember all the media attention, social media marathons, and entertainment buzz everywhere, you’ll agree that both models had a fantastic year in 2015 and are confidently rising on the supermodel ladder. But it’s also been a year of surprises, and it’s not over yet. So, you will be surprised now, because neither Kendall Jenner nor Gigi Hadid could conquer the entire model industry, as Anna Ewers has been announced the model of the year for 2015!
As you’ve probably guessed, we now know the results of the annual Model of the Year Awards held by Models.com. It’s a pretty prestigious competition with more than 250 industry players involved, including Katie Grand, Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, Bethann Hardison, and more.
Readers also have a say in who gets the crown. In fact, this is where the real tension kicks in, because readers are always louder than experts. They had a chance to cast their votes on Models.com to determine the winners of 11 categories (Model of the Year, Breakout Star, Social Media star, Reader’s Choice, etc).
After the voting was closed, Gigi Hadid finished the second as the best model of the year, with the first prize going to Anna Ewers. You’ve probably seen her a lot on Alexander Wang catwalks; she shined brightly in the designer’s first show for Balenciaga and has been collaborating with him since then. She is becoming the top muse of Wang, and is clearly appealing to the rest of the world as well. Ewers has been included in Models.com’s Top 50 list and seems to be insanely popular, now that she outrun the media favorites.
You have seen her on covers of your favorite magazines (Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar) and in ads for such top-industry brands as Hugo Boss, David Yurman, and H&M.
As for the Reader’s Choice Award, Hadid took it all, and is followed by Kendall Jenner. Both have been in the center of attention for industry leaders (who gave their preference to Hadid) and the readers (who supported Jenner). Both have a very active social media following, Hadid’s Instagram following equaling to 10.4 million, while Jenner boasts with 44.2 million users. A pretty good force to go to a fashion war, don’t you think?
Even if neither of the Jenner-Hadid duo got the desirable award, they’re still two of the hottest faces of the model industry at the moment. We are definitely going to hear more about their shows, shoots, and maybe even more model hunting.
The 4th contender in the race was the sexy and seductive American model Chrissy Teigen. Oh, we almost forgot about the male models, maybe because everything was quiet and peaceful there. Both industry leaders and the public gave their preference to the ice-haired American model Lucky Blue Smith. At least, we’ve got a consensus there.
