Beyonce Wins The 2016 CFDA Fashion Icon Award

The 2016 CFDA Awards took place in New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom yesterday night and we already know all the award winners, among which Beyonce took home the statuette for the 2016 CFDA Fashion Icon Award! No wonder she looked like a real fashion icon in a glittering pinstripe Givenchy pantsuit, accessorized with precious diamond rings and earrings, as well as a super wide-brimmed black hat. While we have always considered Beyonce a flawless fashion icon, who constantly inspires her fans with her drop-dead gorgeous red carpet appearances and day-to-day casual looks, the news was kind of a surprise, since the organization had kept the award winner a secret until the ceremony this year.

Beyonce Wins The 2016 CFDA Fashion Icon Award

Among the most noteworthy CFDA 2016 Award winners are Marc Jacobs, who is the best womenswear designer of the year, menswear designer of the year Thom Browne, accessories designer of the year Mansur Gavriel, and Gucci’s Alessandro Michele, who won CFDA’s International Award. Overall, it was a star-studded event with Naomi Campbell, Ciara, Alexa Chung, Karlie Kloss and many others shining bright like diamonds with their to-die-for designer gowns and beauty choices.

Beyonce, who made an appearance at the ceremony with hubby Jay-Z and cutie pie Blue Ivy, was actually on a break from her Formation Tour, and it was quite unexpected to see her at the event. She received the award from CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg, who praised her for her latest Topshop venture, the uber-successful Ivy Park activewear line, as well as for her remarkable influence over the fashion industry, in general.

Onstage, she pronounced a great speech, expressing her gratitude for the award and talking about her fashion background, stating that fashion has always been part of her life, even before she was born, since her grandmother was actually a seamstress. Since her grandparents didn’t have money for their daughter’s Catholic school tuition, her grandma “sewed clothes for the priests and the nuns and made uniforms for the students in exchange for my mother’s education. She then passed this gift onto my mother and taught her how to sew,” stated the songstress.

She then praised all the fashion designers out there, who are like “airy godmothers, magicians, sculptors, and sometimes even our therapists” working tirelessly to make each person see her own reflection, teaching them “how to embrace their complications, and see the flaws.”

With her Fashion Icon Award, Beyonce joins the list of such fashion influencers, as Pharrell Williams, Johnny Depp, Lady Gaga, Kate Moss, Nicole Kidman, and Rihanna, who caused quite a controversy when appearing in a naked Adam Selman dress to accept her award back in 2014.
