Singer, actress, It girl and now designer, 20-year-old talent Zendaya has just added ‘fashion’ to her already astounding resume, officially debuting her own fashion line, Daya by Zendaya, a few hours ago.
Daya by Zedaya, which is also pretty affordable with price tags that range from $18 to $158, is going to be available for purchase on dayabyzendaya.com starting from this upcoming Friday. With a previous shoe collection, which quickly sold out earlier this year, creating a clothing line was almost a natural step for Zendaya, whose new clothing line will definitely become an instant sellout as well.
“Daya by Zendaya is a true reflection of me and my crazy life. One moment I’m Michael Kors’ date to the Met Gala … the next moment I’m in joggers, grocery shopping and arguing with my niece about what quinoa is … you’ll see it all,” stated Zendaya in an official note.
Created along with stylist Law Roach, Daya by Zendaya is extremely feminine and diverse, with pieces fitting every size from 0 to 22. It also features everything from basics, although revisited through a sort of punk rock filter, to more sensual, party-ready ensembles, which are meant to be channeled either all together at once, or separately with staples you might already own. Daya by Zendaya is, in fact, a sort of anarchic clothing line, which focuses more on its clientele’s necessities rather than on trends.
As revealed by the star herself, the approach behind the clothing line was purposely unconventional.
“You can choose to wear the black velvet blazer and trouser together, or wear them with whatever the hell you want,” she told Vogue. “One thing Law and I really hate are trends. We just don’t believe in them, we don’t believe in what’s hot now because you can’t stay on top of all of the constant changes in fashion. It’s just impossible.”
As seen in the promotional video Zendaya released on Instagram, which got figuratively shot in an urban environment, the debut Daya by Zendaya collection includes everything from contemporary bomber jackets to glam rock leather coats, from sophisticated velvet jumpsuits to sultry lace bodicons and casual hoodies.
Aside from velvet and leather, Zendaya’s fashion line is also strong on denim pieces, as it includes denim jackets, jeans and denim rompers aplenty. Being extremely suburban-inspired, most of the denim staples got revamped with shredded effects, too, which keep on emphasizing the line’s eclectic theme.
Although being mostly dark-toned, with black, military green and navy blue being the color palette’s most featured shades, the collection also includes softer hues, such as white and light blue.
The video, along with the staples and Zendaya’s surprising super short pixie cut, urges us to just be ourselves and dare with fashion, in a sort of visual mantra that could just become Daya by Zendaya’s key to success in business.
“Clothes are supposed to be emotional. There is no right or wrong, no singular style,” Zendaya concluded.
