The number one topic many are chatting about today is Kendall Jenner’s 21st birthday party dress, and although a lot of you might find it not that interesting, there are actually a few appealing reasons her dress is now on everyone’s lips. For her 21st birthday, in fact, Kendall Jenner channeled a sort of look à la Paris Hilton in the late Nineties/early ‘00s, which is indeed interesting fashion-wise.
Chosen along with her renowned stylist Monica Rose, Kendall Jenner’s birthday party look truly resembled Paris Hilton’s own 21st birthday dress, worn by the blonde socialite back in 2002 and that created a similar buzz (and which makes me feel old too).
Designed by Lebanese fashion designer Antoine Salameh, namely the man behind the LaBourjoisie boutique, Kendall’s dress is rumored to have cost $9,000, and was as glittery as risqué. With its slip dress-inspired silhouette and a plunging V-neckline, Kendall’s birthday party dress was extremely sensual and fun, and will surely be remembered in the years to come.
“I knew the dress needed to ‘WOW,’ ” Antoine Salameh told Vogue US. “The inspiration was Kendall’s iconic style mixed with an old Hollywood nostalgia. […]I wanted the piece to accentuate Kendall’s figure and also ensure that she felt sexy and confident while wearing it. I’m sure it will be a night to remember.”
Due to the jaw-dropping low neckline of the dress, many are complaining Jenner’s dress was somehow too revealing, although the young model, designer and entrepreneur couldn’t probably be happier about it.
Besides denoting how rooted the late Nineties/early ‘00s trend is in these past (and future) months, Salameh’s design reminded us of Jenner’s involvement in the #freethenipple movement, which in return confirms the now 21-year-old beauty’s interest in women’s rights.
The dress was also a sort of retro-futuristic revisit of the Twenties, a decade the Kardashian/Jenner’s clan often draws inspiration from when organizing their birthday parties. ‘Roaring’, liberating and dynamic, the Twenties began empowering women with new perspectives on work, education and life in general, and we hope Kendall figuratively transposed that decade to ours, celebrating life and girl power as a result.
“The perfect party dress because it’s very lightweight and easy to move in,” Salameh told WWD. “[Jenner] can dance the night away in it. I’ve always wanted to dress Kendall. I’ve had the pleasure of dressing her sisters and she’s always been on the top of my wish list. I am excited to dress her for such a grand occasion as her 21st birthday.”
With Paris Hilton having travelled all the way to Los Angeles, New York, London, Tokyo and Las Vegas for her 21st birthday, should we expect five different parties and looks from Kendall Jenner too?
