The idea of a seven-figure contract is absolutely insane. This is why the position of 18-year-old Kylie Jenner is so astounding, especially for those of us not in the exotic sphere of stardom. Jenner has been releasing lip kits, which have been well received in the market, and released three new liquids, which sold out within its first two hours last Friday. That’s not a bad way to kick off the weekend, if you ask me. Then, on Monday, Kylie and Kendall Jenner celebrated the beginning of their joint clothing label by throwing a New York Fashion Week party. Finally, later that same evening Us Weekly reported that Kylie Jenner signed on for a seven-figure contract as the new face for Puma.
Through her Instagram platform, Jenner has been able to use her 50.7 million followers to promote various products and brands, and has also had her fair share of camera and runway time, much like her sisters. So this is just adding right into the mixture, alongside her personal business endeavors with her line through Bellami Hair and as brand ambassador for Nip + Fab. As for her connection to Puma, the star has been notably photographed on the streets rocking Puma’s athletic clothing. With how well she pulls off the pieces, there’s no wonder she was able to pull in such a substantial amount of money.
But this announcement has led to some issues on the home front. Brother-in-law Kanye West had a lot to say about the deal with Puma on his Twitter feed, as his Yeezy label has a collaboration with rival athletic brand Adidas.
“1000% there will never be a Kylie Puma anything. That’s on my family! 1000% Kylie is on Yeezy team!!!” The rapper posted this message Tuesday evening, which was followed within the hour by another response of, “Puma we gone give you your measly million dollars back!!! Never try to divide the family!!!”
Regardless of any rivalry between affiliated brands, the Kardashian/Jenner clan has dealt with its fair share of drama, so this will pass soon. West is generally recognized for having some dramatic rants, but this one at least seems grounded within reason. Although with Jenner’s clear interest in the brand’s apparel and her rising stardom within the industry, Puma would have to have been blind to not realize the potential with having Jenner on their side.
The brand seems to be drawing a lot of talent from celebrities, with Rihanna named as creative direction back in December. This singer’s first show with the brand will debut this Friday night. So even though she and the Jenner/Kardashian family have never had much interaction, it’ll be interesting to see how things initially play out between the two. Jenner is proving herself to be a force to be reckoned with in the fashion industry, and with this new contract there appears to be no slowing down, either. She’s definitely a star to keep your eyes on in the industry.
