Modern Family star Sofia Vergara, 43, finally got married to actor Joe Manganiello, 38, in a fairy-tale wedding on November 22 at The Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, Miami, Florida. The couple swapped vows in front of nearly 400 guests, among which Vergara’s co-stars and several of the couple’s celebrity friends were reunited to celebrate the magic moment.
Before the wedding actually took place, the 43-year old diva had declared she would rather look sexy than ‘like a virgin’ at her own wedding, adding: “My body looks better when I have fitted dresses with more support. I’m 43, so I can’t really be looking for something too crazy. I have to go with what looks good on me.” That’s why, since the couple announced the good news there was a mood of great anticipation not only around the wedding itself, but also around Sofia Vergara’s bridal dress.
Unsurprisingly, Vergara chose to wear a Zuhair Murad wedding dress, confirming once again the mutual esteem the Colombian-American actress and the Lebanese fashion designer have always shared (Vergara is often spotted wearing Murad’s iconic mermaid evening dresses at different red carpet events). Our curiosity about Vergara’s bridal dress increased when talking about the actress’s style choices, Zuhair Murad revealed: “She’s very much in control of her image. She knows how to dress for her figure, choosing the designs that enhance her hourglass shape and show her marvelous curves.”
Sofia walked down the aisle accompanied by her 23-year-old son, Manolo, donning a unique, sensual gown with a classic heart-shaped strapless top that made her look absolutely radiant. The intricately designed removable overskirt, which took more than 1,600 hours of work, 32 people, 350 crystals and 11 pounds of sequins in order to be completed, featured a silk tulle fabric and handmade baroque and arabesques embroideries, adorned with 3D vintage motifs. The dress’s motifs and embellishments, which weighted more than 17 lbs, were in a perfect harmony with the elaborate floral installation by florist Jeff Leatham, which stunningly decorated the aisle.
The actress ditched a veil following the wedding tradition, instead, wearing a delicate wavy hairdo and a pair of dangling diamond earrings to the tune of 55 carats, designed by Lorraine Schwartz. Even more diamonds were spotted on both her head and wrist. Why did she keep her hair down, you may ask? Here’s another Vergara’s piece of advice:
“I think women once they hit 40, they shouldn’t put their hair up again until they’re 60. I think in your twenties and thirties if you put it up you look great, once you’re 40 you age yourself putting your hair up.”
The actress’s pre-wedding cocktail party dress is also worth mentioning. Sofia Vergara wore a languid dress by Mark Zunino, a Los Angele-based fashion designer known for his custom corsets, for her pre-wedding dinner at The Breakers Resort in Miami the night before (it was a weekend-long wedding celebration and the couple had created a special hashtag #Jofía to share the details of their Big day with the fans on Instagram). Regarding this, Zunino recently told People that “she expressed she wanted a form-fitting dress that was sexy and sophisticated.” Zunino’s cocktail dress features an all-white/blush pink silk organza mini skirt (which took 3 weeks to complete) and a sweetheart-neckline top enhanced with crystal appliqués.
When it comes to weddings, style and fashion, Vergara definitely knows best! Congrats to the happy couple!
