There is one thing that may be even more exciting than the actual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, and it is what happens backstage. Thanks to the main social media channels, as well as journalists who explore what happens behind the curtains, having a glimpse of how it feels like to be a Victoria’s Secret Angel is (sort of) easy, and in this specific case, if possible, it was even easier.
This Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2016, which took place earlier this week in Paris, was filled with Instagram-savvy it-girls like never before, which means that snaps, pictures and selfies aplenty were there, waiting for us to be seen (given the fact that the show featured a grand total of 51 models, we surely had a lot of sneak peeks!).
Thanks to some of the few intimate moments shared by some Angels with us, getting backstage also means getting to know most of the Victoria’s Secret Angels’ fears and desires, which ultimately make them look more human and relatable.
Gigi Hadid told Vogue, for example, that she “put a lot of effort into just being positive this year – taking the pressure off myself and remembering to have a really good time. […] That’s been really cool for me, because it’s been a way to take every second in and enjoy it. I think that if you walk out there and have a lot of appreciation and love for yourself, then that comes through on camera. I think that’s why this group of girls is chosen – they’re effortlessly confident and effortlessly beautiful. You have to kind of remind yourself of that, that you’re in the show for a reason.”
She also delved deeper into one of the main fears we all face throughout our adulthood, which are those related to a changing body we have to keep on accepting and learn to love unconditionally. “I’m still learning about my body; everyone’s body is going to change. You can be one way one year and another way the next. The important thing is to accept yourself and keep learning about yourself,” she concluded.
Thoughtful intimate inner explorations aside, the 2016 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show’s backstage was also filled with more cheerful and jocose moments, which saw most of the models having fun and taking selfies while waiting for their makeup and hair to be done. Of course, Kendall Jenner and the Hadids are the main protagonists here, as they definitely had all eyes on them.
As for the makeup looks, Teen Vogue managed to reach out to one of the show’s makeup artists, namely Tom Pecheux, who gave us a few tips on what to use and how to apply the products, in order to get the best Victoria’s Secret Angel-approved makeup style.
“I wanted the girls to have wings! Victoria’s Secret is bringing angel wings for the girls, so I wanted to do my own version!” he explained. “I do a grey liquid liner, and on top of it I’m putting a bronze that I smudge a little bit. I want it to still feel like sexy, bronzy glamour.”
While waiting for the show to be broadcasted on CBS on December 5th, you can already have a glimpse of all the looks featured in the show!
