Winona Ryder has been chosen as the new face for Marc Jacobs’ spring 2016 Beauty ads. Booking this timeless beauty was likely a no-brainer for Jacobs, as he has been personal friends with the actress for more than 25 years. We are thrilled to see the direction this duo will go with this collaboration.
Between Jacobs’ modern yet progressive styling and Ryder’s versatile beauty, we are left wondering what exactly we’ll be in for with the campaign. Some models have features that make it easier to predict the direction a designer will choose to go, but in this case, all we can know is based on what Jacobs chooses to release himself. And as always, Jacobs disclosed some information and photography as a precedent for what is to come with the complete 2016 campaign.
“It is with great pride (and pleasure) that I ‘leak’ this image from our upcoming 2016 MARC JACOBS BEAUTY campaign,” Jacobs began in a characteristically lengthy caption on Instagram, referring to a stunning photo of Ryder’s mirrored reflection. He gave credit where credit was due, to photographer David Sims and stylist Katie Grand, before moving in to discuss Ryder’s styling in more detail.
“Mesmerized by this image and her look- created by Diane [Kendal] (using our fine liner eye crayon, velvet noir mascara and new nudes lipstick) and hair by Guido [Palau] I am reminded of one of my all time favorite films: The Last Year at Marienbad,” the designer continued, growing more excited by the photo and his inspiration as the caption progressed. “The flawless cool, elegant and timeless chic of actress Delphine Seyrig has long been a reference of mine. The force of the surreal calm, and painstaking fetishistic polish of this film and its heroine are truly ‘ON FLEEK’ and continues to inspire me to date.”
It is here where Jacobs seems to express the decision to work with Ryder in this campaign, as her timeless beauty perfectly coincides with a long-time inspiration and point of reference was for him – and of course, being friends with Ryder is a happy coincidence. It’s also great to see the information on the products used to create this chic, stunning look. We love seeing the ‘60s retro vibe making a comeback in the makeup world, and here it is looking absolutely flawless. Of course, everything is easier said than done, but seeing it written out gives a whole new level of personalization, in that this is a possible outcome to using the products in this beauty line.
But of course Jacobs had more to say. To finish off the extensive caption, he turned to give credit to the gorgeous Ryder, because how far could flawless styling go without the perfect muse to model it on?
“No one I know could exude the adjectives I’ve listed as perfectly as Winona does… She does not model the look she gets into the role- and exudes it! A brilliant mind, talent, and physical beauty like no other, I am delighted to share this image of Winona with my IG fans and followers today.”
Jacobs also promised to share more images from the past, of his work with Ryder (where he uses the acronym “MJ/WR). And finally, flourishing his caption off with “#4everwinona #marcbeauty”. Hashtags don’t generally have their place outside of social media, but #4everwinona is a trend I could sink into any day. The designer’s clear adoration to the beautiful actress and model is truly endearing, and his compliments of her beauty are well-placed.
We just can’t wait to see the rest of the Marc Jacobs Beauty campaign featuring Winona Ryder.
