Models are what drive the fashion industry these days it appears. We remember models more than we remember brands, which is quite the strange twist on things but reality nonetheless. Those top supermodels? Well, let us just say they get paid enough for their God-given good looks and meticulous attention to their body details. In particular, we see some up-and-coming younger models falling into the highest paid categories, though it is the older, more professional semi-retired ones who will keep leading the scoreboard for now. Forbes has just launched the list of the highest paid supermodels in 2015, and while Kendall Jenner is on the list, it’s Gisele Bundchen that leads!
The top paid lady, who seems to have won the genetic lottery is Gisele Bundchen, who has banked about 35 million more than her runners-up, Cara Delevingne and Adriana Lima, coming up with a whopping 44 million USD. Top earners include Karlie Kloss and Candice Swanepoel with 5 million USD in 2015, Alessandra Ambrosio coming in with them (a mother of 2 children no less) along with Lara Stone, all with the same amount. Joana Smalls is the Latino Amabassor for Estee Lauder and banked just a bit over the others, at 5.5 million, while Miranda Kerr joined her on the scale. Bringing home 7 million in 2015 is Natalia Vodianova, while Doutzen Kroes, with her own line of cashmere sweaters, earned but a half million more. At the end of the day though, just Delevingne and Lima just under her, it is Bundchen who has swept the table of awards and taken home the prize, the well-loved Brazilian with her own lingerie line and her knack for designing sandals for Grendene from her home country. She may have generally retired from the runway, but her career is far from over as she continues to sign contracts with Chanel and Carolina Herrera for their fragrances and beauty products, along with doing photoshoots here and there that has the blonde bombshell constantly showing up on all our fashion media.
Over the past year, it was Cara Delevingne whose earnings skyrocketed at a whopping 61% to 9 million USD, which essentially means that we might be seeing Bundchen style success in the future for her. However, it appears there is competition to be found in her best friend Kendall Jenner, who is part of the Taylor Swift girl gang along with Delevingne and Karlie Kloss. Kendall currently ranks number 16 on the highest paid models chart, earning a decent 4 million USD, but with a very large social media following – 58 million of them spanning Facebook, Twitter and Instagram of course, the latter having a very impressive 36.4 million. Delevingne has only 19 million on Instagram in comparison.
Being a model is not so easy so we give kudos to the newcomers who make it big, often through exposure due to their families. In Jenner’s case, we can call it family plus inclusion in the tight girl gang that enjoys the fashion shows together and parties it up like the best of them in only the sexiest and more fashion forward of red carpet and after part designs by the top artists to have their creativity grace the catwalks of the Fashion Weeks.
