The wedding day is normally one of the most life-altering moments for any man or woman, but particularly us females. We spend months planning for the day and night where we are a princess, a queen for a moment, perhaps dreaming up the perfect wedding from the time we are 5 or 6. With every man we meet, we often scope him out, trying to understand just how good a husband he might be. But we don’t always want to go for the traditional dress and the traditional overall style of doing things. We want to be wild and free and show our true characters, particularly when making an everlasting vow before the ones we love and the Heavens above.
You may opt for the white, but you don’t need to appear as if Cinderella at her first ball. You do not need the glass slippers any more than you need the strapless designs of late. You need not have every bit of the gown touching the floor or even need it to be a single piece. Here are some celebrities, who have tied the knot in original costumes, looking simply fabulous!
1. Solange Knowles Cape Wedding Dress
Just married Solange Knowles is the first on this list, since she really did make a statement ditching the classic wedding dress and going for a custom caped gown by Humberto Leon for Kenzo in a charming ivory shade. She even rode a white bike embellished with roses to the ceremony, breaking the stereotypes and looking so dreamy!
2. Olivia Palermo Two-Piece Wedding Dress
Olivia Palermo looks stunning in Carolina Herrera, wherein she has moved away from the traditional look just enough to prefer a two-piece dress, complete with a white close fitting sweater and long tulle skirt. The embroidery around the skirt’s slit is gorgeous to behold and her groom looks just as smart standing by her side. A single half-up half-down hairdo as well as simple golden jewelry is all this lovely lady needed to feel like a princess on her big day.
3. Leandra Medine Wedding Dress Complemented with a Jacket
Striking a rather stunning figure, Leandra Medine wore a Marchesa dress with a Rebecca Minkoff jacket customized to match the flowing, feathery gown itself. It’s hard to imagine a bride wearing a jacket to her wedding, but Leandra pulled off the look splendidly. Not only did she look fabulous, but she was probably warm all night long, too! She rather looks like a modern goddess stepping out of the froth of the crashing waves. How sublime!
4. Margherita Missoni Boho Chic Wedding Dress
Roman goddesses are not what we think of when we consider wedding dresses but Margherita Missoni looks positively divine in her Giambattista Valli gown. There’s something to be said about all the lace and embroidery, as well as the high empirical waist. Aphrodite herself must have been jealous of this gorgeous bride.
5. Poppy Delevingne Hippie Wedding Dress
During her second wedding ceremony, Poppy Delevingne opted for a hippie-style dress with a sweet floral pattern and fabulous cleavage, created by Emilio Pucci. She looks great in the double tiered dress that has us wondering if the lower section doesn’t rip off and leave the bride in a revealing mini dress.
6. Anja Rubik Asymmetrical Wedding Dress
When you have that perfect figure and such leggy legs, you never need a long gown! Anja Rubik opted for a custom-made Emilio Pucci asymmetrical dress, mixing romantic tulle and lace with silk. The traditional train was juxtaposed with the modern short cut and boy she did look flabbergasting to put it mildly. Traditional wedding gowns have to step up their game to compete with this breathtaking design.
7. Angelina Jolie Hand-Painted Wedding Dress
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are without a doubt one of the most beautiful couples in Hollywood to get married. They are also rather odd trendsetters in their own right and somehow look great on screen together. Mr. and Mrs. Smith anyone? Then again, when you have your own children to include in the wedding, Atelier Versace’s design can emerge. We doubt a wedding can be made any more special than when the bride’s veil has been customized by the couple’s children. That’s probably where all the childish drawings come in.
8. Kim Kardashian Givenchy Wedding Dress
Is third time really the charm? Kim Kardashian chose to walk down the aisle with her new husband in a stunning Givency dress that did little to cover her amazing assets while demurely showing off as much skin as possible. Somehow she and Kanye West have turned out to be a pretty decent couple but that dress will certainly always be on our minds. We may even decide to use the design concepts for our own weddings.
9. Keira Knightley Ballerina Wedding Dress
When you trust your wedding dress design to such a legendary fashion house as Chanel, you can be sure to have the most astounding look on your big day. Beauty Keira Knightley did exactly this way, opting for a Chanel Couture short bustier wedding dress from the brand’s SS 2006 collection featuring gray tulle. She topped her dress with the iconic tweed jacket from the brand and finished off her ethereal look with gray ballet pumps and a floral garland decorating her loose hair.
10. Shenae Grimes Black Wedding Dress
You may have imagined all the most unconventional colors for your wedding dress, however, hardly ever could you think tying the knot in a black dress. Well, you couldn’t however, Shenae Grimes could, as she picked a black Vera Wang wedding dress to walk down the aisle. Although the design of the dress was quite traditional mixed with modern elements, it was the color that made it so outstanding.
These celebrities were bold enough to ditch the traditional gowns for unique wedding dresses that made their memorable and iconic! So never shy away from your personality and try to show off your vibrant character picking a dress that best describes you!
