The Acne Studios spring/summer 2017 runway was full of comfortable billowy fabrics and loose silhouettes. There were a lot of natural tones, sky blues and greys, light greens, yellows, browns, reds and taupe. The patterns included stripes, paisleys, argyle and checks in multiple colors and details of the prints. In several ensembles there are no less than three prints and some have even more.
Creative director Jonny Johansson found inspiration in the textile traditions of different countries for this collection. As a result, the dresses come in a variety of lengths, but all of the pants regardless of length are cut wide to accentuate the walk and create a flattering shape for all wearers. There are ponchos, loose, hanging jackets and coats, as well as some pretty great accessories.
Most of the shoes shown with the collection are flats, in a variety of shades and details. The specific tailoring of the Acne Studios ready-to-wear collection for spring and summer 2017 makes it certain that although the silhouettes in the collection are oversized, they are still feminine and complementary.
Since being founded as part of the ACNE collective in 1996, Acne Studios has made it a point to offer a well rounded variety of products. As a Stockholm, Sweden based fashion house Acne Studios is well known for being a multidisciplinary, luxury fashion house. The interesting range of fabrics and designs used by Acne Studios was combined in an assemblage of ways that no other collection has seen.
The bags were all different, the shoes were all different and even the pattern pairings were completely unique; some even had drapes in the back that appeared to work like capes. On the dresses that have this billowing cape feature you are likely to find more patterns. One set features vertical stripes in a variety of shades with an interesting gold fringe that is also matched on the shoulder, hem and cuffs, as well as the matching pants.
Acne Studios is well known for a focus on tailoring and custom developed fabrics. Many of the designs shown during the Acne Studios spring 2017 runway show were a mix of patterns and fabrics in mellow, moderately muted colors. There was a very distinct feel to the clothes in the collection, but as with many looks the details make the difference.
The very first look had a great feature in the sleeves accentuated with the design. There are no deep plunging necklines in this collection, though there are a variety of necklines. The mix and match patterns and oversized silhouettes look very cool and full of movement, accentuating every step and confusing the eye, making it difficult to know where to look first. At least the collection is not completely boring.
