Alberta Ferretti decided to bring her spring/summer 2016 ad campaign to the atmospheric desert for a bold photoshoot. American model Amber Valletta and Ethiopian model Liya Kebede were cast to bring the clothes to life in this beautiful new setting, which was teeming with character.
“I pictured a unique and special woman who lives in wide open spaces, freeing her imagination, without any restrictions,” Ferretti said in an official statement.
With this mentality, the desert was clearly the perfect option for this photoshoot. And the models cast were not only chosen for their top success in the business, but also for their ability to breathe life into their “characters.” You can look at these photos and picture any number of women wearing them, which is the ideal direction for any Ferretti collection.
The bohemian clothes deserve a laid-back stage, with people who don’t take themselves too seriously, and Valletta and Kebede were able to look natural in the garments and seemed to be having a bit of fun along the way. Of course, it would be a bit difficult to make Ferretti’s clothes look over-the-top, but the models made it easy to look at these photos and smile.
Slouchy and oversized clothes set up for the ultimate laid-back (yet still high fashion) experience, so after the casting the most important part would be the portrayal of the models and their garments. This was placed upon Peter Lindbergh, who photographed the Alberta Ferretti spring/summer 2016 campaign at 2b Management, and ultimately led the designer to this balance of sophistication and informality, with a dash of good humor to spice things up.
One of the most memorable parts of the shoot altogether, however, is the crazy footwear. Knee-high strappy sandals aren’t new in the fashion industry, but these are particularly eye-catching. When you look at any one of the photos featuring these shoes, you can feel your eyes being drawn to them. It definitely makes you pay closer attention to the rest of the outfit as well, since it’s especially interesting to see how the shoes clash and balance with the garments.
We always love Ferretti’s masterful use of prints and proportions, especially for bohemian shoppers, so waiting for the Alberta Ferretti spring 2016 campaign was mainly just waiting for the next installation of a portrayal of clothes with exciting prints and combinations. The sandals are only one component to this whole campaign, but they carry a surprising amount of weight, by helping viewers look more closely at the careful selection of prints and garments for each shot.
With any photoshoot, it may be tempting to breeze through each shot, but Ferretti always manages to give that perfect piece of intrigue that keeps you looking. With her showing from last season at Milan Fashion Week, she used feathers and a combination of the latest fashion trends that would have been easy to miss, if not for her careful placement of detailing and her styling, which kept you staring, and ultimately finding smaller details from the ensemble.
Ferretti cites her woman as being free from restrictions and with an open imagination, so she is also urging viewers to view this campaign – and all of her others – with the same perspective. Your mind has to be open to seeing these things. So just let your eyes be drawn where they wish to be, because you just might find something truly inspiring.
