Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2016 Collection

Grotesque and sophisticated elements just got combined together by Sarah Burton, whose Alexander McQueen pre-fall 2016 collection is one of her most eclectic fashion lines. Inspired both by nature and the animal kingdom, Burton managed to create a melancholic lineup, whose colors and motifs recall fall, perfectly paying homage to the label’s dear departed founder. Alexander McQueen-inspired patterns are mainly to be found in the many gothic-chic designs, appliqués and intricate embroideries too, while lace fabrics add a touch of unconventional sensuality to the entire collection. What’s more interesting is that Burton did manage to expand the scope of the label itself, as she focused on lavish yet wearable pieces of clothing that are basically meant to make anyone feel special.

Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2016 Collection

The Alexander McQueen pre-fall 2016 collection’s main theme is nature, which has been explored by Sarah Burton through the many decorations, embroideries and even jewelry pieces. The pretty decorative effects, such as butterfly, beetles, flowers and exotic figures, namely parrots, flamingos and hummingbirds, got combined with many grotesque-looking skulls, mouths and even beauty products. In doing so she clearly reaffirms the lineup’s aim: celebrating Alexander McQueen’s past with its present and future. It may also have something to do with the label’s mysterious plans regarding the upcoming 2016 fall collection, which is occasionally moving to London for its runway show.

The collection’s color palette, which is made of dark and autumnal hues, is another key element when it comes to Burton’s homage to Alexander McQueen, as it intentionally plays with contrasts and sensuality. To accentuate the total black looks, for instance, Burton opted for some gems and crystal application, which inevitably makes everything look more refined and sumptuous.

Overall, the Alexander McQueen pre-fall 2016 collection alternates fluid and sharp silhouettes, adding vintage looks from time to time that directly come from the first decades of the Twentieth century. To top it all off, Burton chose to finish off almost each look with a statement accessory, such as leather gloves or furry stoles, whose aim is balancing the figure and enhancing the models’ complexion. Although the most featured looks are the midi dresses with plunging V-necklines and belts cinched at the waists, Burton also gave the collection a few mannish touches thanks to some bell-bottom suits and cozy riding jackets.

Aside from the undeniable decorative richness, the Alexander McQueen pre-fall 2016 collection excels at fabrics too, as it alternates wool, fur, cotton and leather fabrics with black see-through lace inserts. Used to create long and short puffed sleeves, as well as long sinuous evening dresses, such lace fabric accentuate the natural motifs, as well as the models’ sensual makeup, whose fire red lipsticks and nail polish are bound to make a splash this forthcoming pre-fall season.
