Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2017 Collection

Sarah Burton, the creative director of Alexander McQueen, took a cue from the medieval times to create the Pre-Fall 2017 collection. This great artist created an amazing collection inspired mostly by the British sculptor and artist Barbara Hepworth. Just like the Fall line, the Pre-Fall one strongly accents the power of women.

Burton said she found the inspiration for this line during her trip to Cornwall, a county located in the far southwest of England that is rich with ancient churches, stone circles, and beautiful views. Most of her collections are rooted geographically, and she finds a perfect way to intertwine this with her imagination and Britain’s history. During her trip, she used the landscapes of Cornwall and Barbara Hepworth’s sculptures to create an empowering line of clothing.

These innovative designs show a lot of medieval details that highly resemble medieval heraldry and armor. It seems like the clothes were made to emphasize women’s power, their self-determination and the warrior inside of them. The collection is romantic and strong at the same time. Sarah took her team to Cornwall to embrace the power of the past, and to create a line of clothing that can be worn today.

The end result is astonishing. Burton found the perfect way to honor Alexander McQueen’s work, while also adding her personal touch to the pieces. The line includes black leather corset belts and gloves. Some of the dresses are magical, soft and gentle, made of embroidered chiffon, while the others are strong and a bit dark, silver and black to resemble shining armor. The knitted dresses with a sheer material are perfectly combined with leather to look even more powerful. There is also a great contrast when it comes to the coats. The blazers are long and elegant in calm tones, while the coats are massive, leather or fur, most of them in dark colors.

Vivid colors are not very present in the line. There are mostly calm and nude tones or dark and gray ones, almost all of them combined with a lot of leather accessories. The necklaces are large with a big stone placed at the center and resemble a necklace that Barbara Hepworth once wore. The huge stone is also present on the sandals with carved out heels, while the boots have a simple design, both flat and heeled.
