Alexander McQueen Resort 2016 Collection

There is something about an Alexander McQueen collection that gets the heart thumping and the adrenaline going. He himself might not be around anymore, but the legacy lives on and the brand has taken on a great spin on sexy meets practical meets stylish, all in one. Creative director Sarah Burton seems to have planted a garden with her prints used within the Alexander McQueen resort 2016 collection, including everything from sweet pea to lily of the valley, begonias and hollycocks. While the FW 2015 season was rather dark and gloomy, this is the pre-spring collection and thus very much focused on the blooms that are to come once the snows melt and the sun begins to shine with joy. “It’s the very opposite of last season’s darkness, and all about growth, freshness, springtime — and optimism,” said Burton about this particular line newly released. Along with the beauty of the flowers also come the jewels that have been interspersed within the collection, giving the pieces rather intriguing heirlooms feel.

White leather coats with sweet pea prints appear within the line-up. We see dresses with begonias and floppy tiered ruffles. Peplum jackets and cross stitch patterned leather dresses make their own appearance, while long tulle pieces are embroidered with hollycocks for a vintage feel. Midi heights are the common hemlines throughout, while everything has a conservative meets sexy distinction.

Belted leather jackets over dresses with slips up the front of the thighs open up the collection, only to continue into a conservative meets wacky artist design tribute. Cinched in waists are made up for with wider hips and A-line skirts, while the lace up shoes the feet are clad in are nothing if not perfectly matching with the skirts and jackets themselves. We have to admit though, high necks and lack of sleeves on a leather dress falling to just below the knees is sexy even without the awesome floral prints over it. Cut-outs at the shoulders give some of the ruffled dresses a rather 1900s vintage feel, especially with the matching pumps below, while the longer midi dress with open décolletage have us thinking we’d really love some Alexander McQueen in our closets right now.

Between bejewelled belt buckles, pretty brooches and chunky, burnished golden charm bracelets, this is a collection with some awesome accessories as well, adding hints of bold glitter all around. There is a cable knit sweater festooned with embroidered brooches as well, while the lavish adornments are simply perfect for the line itself, as well as the brand’s name. Among all the midi dresses with the older, more mature feel, we also find a few shorter minis, one in particular with a tight tank in semi corset style tucked into a matching skirt that barely pulls in the derriere. Ruffled dresses with leather jackets on top, lacy dresses with bare shoulders and arms, see through gowns with corset-like chest regions and multi-tiered dresses all come into play here, shown off beautifully to the waiting world.
