It certainly is amusing to see the news section concerning Alexander Wang include information about little North West’s antics. The best part is not that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s daughter cried during the Alexander Wang fall/winter 2015-2016 rtw show but that she was wearing Alexander Wang to begin with. The crying may be attributed to seeing the lovely Kendall Jenner turning heads as she walked for the 31-year-old American designer, but Perez Hilton has revealed a better reason: a toy monkey spotted that looked just like her own back home. In any case, the show was incredible and true to the Alexander Wang style, while focusing on the black color throughout. We’ve seen other designers use the same color theme in the past as well and this time it was the collection which would make Wang shine bright on the runway during the New York Fashion Week. The designer even explained his choice by stating that since his customers love going for the black pieces, why not cater a whole collection to their wants and needs? Since it is a rare enough statement when a designer mentions the customers, that just earned the brand a few more fans, knowing that the creative mind behind the brainchild so coveted in the fashion world appreciates what his following desires.
The problem with black is that it can look pretty flat. That meant that the Balenciaga creative director presenting his personal fashion label would need to spruce things up a bit and included different subcultures to really bring the collection to life. This included the presence of Goths, Japanese Lolita name bearers, and heavy metal band emulations. Marilyn Manson and Kiss were given specific shout-outs, while the attitude displayed was incredibly rebellious.
Black leather, silver studs, and metal mesh; ball-chain trims that decorate velvet revers on tuxedo jackets meet jacquard robes. Sleeveless dresses with shoulder cut-outs somehow compensate for the bulletproof style vests, Frankenstein boots and menacing undertones to it all. Silver snaps adorn boxy jackets while wallet chains are attached to cropped trousers. The style is perfect for after dark and the soul is that of a hard rock. With all different shades of black, come together in different fabrics, shines and textures, this is one collection that each one of us can find the perfect black outfit within.
Curves are highlighted, coats are double breasted, silver studs delineated just about everything; we’re really talking about Alexander Wang in his prime and the Alexander Wang fall/winter 2015-2016 rtw collection proves his ability to take a single color block and turn it into an incredible 43-piece fashion line that will literally rock our worlds. Furthermore, the punk-rock look is further accentuated with the slices of red that seem to find their way into the collection, while the whole line-up also features whites and metallic hues in the unexpectedly lovely pieces pulled together.
Miniskirts, midi skirts, turtlenecks and cropped pants are the most common among it all, while we also see fringed ends to asymmetrical skirts with their matching crop tops and sheer white dresses in the black velvet outlines that somehow remind us of a world of robots. The breasts are bare underneath and the nipples covered with vertical velvet designs. All in all, this is a very edgy, very daring and perfectly bold collection by Alexander Wang. We wonder what his thoughts for the spring/summer 2016 RTW line-up will be…
