Do you need any travel inspiration just in time for the holiday season? If so, Louis Vuitton’s resort 2017 ad campaign might give you the exact dose of both travel and fashion inspiration, as the French mansion has tapped super stylish Alicia Vikander as its brand ambassador for the new season.
The Louis Vuitton resort 2017 ad campaign was shot at the Niteroi Contemporary Art Museum in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, where the collection was officially presented in May. Patrick Demarchelier, who is one of Nicolas Ghesquière’s favorite fashion photographers in the whole world, captured the ad campaign, forever encapsulating the collection’s sporty-chic spirit along with Alicia Vikander’s au naturel elegance in four pictures.
The setting’s contemporary architecture and ultra-modernist structures surely helped embody Louis Vuitton’s resort 2017 campaign too, as they created an appealing contrast with the minimalist lines of the proposals, while simultaneously enhancing creative director Nicolas Ghesquière’s appeal for structuralism and travelling.
Among all of the resort 2017 collections, Louis Vuitton’s was, in fact, the one that drew inspiration from travelling the most, as it featured both utilitarian staples and cruise-ready outfits. Alicia Vikander is seen sporting both, as she intriguingly alternates fancy motifs with more casual-chic garments in the campaign.
For those who had the chance to watch Louis Vuitton’s resort 2017 show live, Ghesquière’s choice of tapping actress Alicia Vikander might not come by surprise. The 28-year-old actress was one of the A-list celebrities sitting in the front row during the runway show, and is often spotted channeling Louis Vuitton’s it-items. She has, moreover, been one of Ghesquière’s ultimate muses since 2015, and just by looking at this specific campaign, it is not that hard to understand why.
Palm trees and one of Brazil’s most imposing architectures are served thus as the background for the Swedish actress’ poses, who often places Louis Vuitton’s accessories at the focal points of the photos. With Ghesquière putting a lot of emphasis on the French house’s it-items, such as its signature handbags and new, visionary creations, this resort 2017 campaign couldn’t, of course, be anything but completely focused on the accessory line.
Necklaces and earrings played a huge role in styling Alicia Vikander’s outfits, and inevitably helped the campaign get its holiday-ready appeal. Stripes, total-white outfits and cropped cuts reinforced this motif, enhancing both the Swedish actress’ flawless complexion and the background’s contemporary structures.
Out of all the four pictures, the one that sees Alicia Vikander fiercely showcasing a sporty-chic deconstructed skirt is probably the most motivational and inspiring, as it seems to recreate Ghesquière’s moodboard and creative stream of consciousness over a span of three different elements, namely Louis Vuitton’s eclectic legacy, Vikander’s Scandinavian elegance, and Rio de Janeiro’s cosmopolitan spirit.
