During this New York Fashion Week, we have seen many designers opt for more elegant, a bit edgier and more powerful looks in their new season collections and Joseph Altuzarra is one of them. His newest Altuzarra fall/winter 2013-2014 collection is all about dark elegance, glamour and chic, featuring a cavalcade of sexy silhouettes, fox fur (Learn How to Wear Fur) and pieces comprising a statement-making combo of black and white leather. While the newest Altuzarra collection won’t appeal to PETA activists, we still have to admit that it’s extremely feminine, elegant and powerful.
According to the designer, the Altuzarra fall/winter 2013-2014 collection is a result of inspiration from the “hard surfaces” of the streets, the “black skyline at dusk” and the “glint of the pavement after the rain.” During a preview, Altuzarra tried to explain his new collection, saying: “I wanted to go back to the idea of the street a bit more.” And this, of course, didn’t mean too casual outfits, such as ripped jeans or sportswear. Instead, he took his tlatest two collection, Berbers and Bollywood, and transferred the more eclectic items into something wow-worthy. “In my mind, it was this idea of an office lobby with women [coming and going] — sort of like a corporate uniform,” he said.
Wholly, the Altuzarra fall/winter 2013-2014 collection is utterly sexy and fabulous with a reserved color palette of blacks and whites that were interrupted over here or there by splashes of orange, forest green and khaki. A high accent is placed on the silhouette-embracing factor, as the line is flooded with body-conscious dresses and suits, which quite often came matched with leggings. There were also corset dresses, leather ones with chiffon inserts, coats with big metal buttons, skirts with panels of studs, as well as dresses featuring padding in the hip line, which, according to him, “gives you this super-flat stomach.” What’s there not to love about the Altuzarra fall/winter 2013-2014 collection?
