Slits, lace, keyhole cut-outs and frilly edges have us utterly mesmerized with the Altuzarra fall/winter 2015-2016 ready to wear collection presented on the New York Fashion Week runway. Fur and leathers make an appearance and dominate the outfits while tailored coats and form-fitting pant suits manage to weasel their way onto the catwalk. Leading New York socialites from the 18th century somehow come to mind when looking at the beautiful pieces being presented on the runway, with the whole of the collection is somehow reminiscent of a boardroom-meets-boudoir creation.
The dresses are feminine and oh-so sexy, but the boots are the accessories that really catch one’s attention and hold on to it for dear life. They are studded with silver, laced up high and the edges and covered in white ruffle. They come in knee-high designs and shorter half boots. They come in white and they come in black, in camel colors and even bordeaux. They even come in thigh-high versions that really show off the length of the legs, while there are lacy studded shoes in the red and the camel that make their appearance as well, showing off a bit more skin than the pretty boots.
More than anything, it is probably the constant appearance of the high slits that really turns the heads, mostly on the left thigh but sometimes even appearing in the center, as per the fall 2015 trends. What is more, we get to see the deep V plunges of the neckline as well, sometimes appearing as if the triangular cut-outs from both sides are trying to meet in the middle. The woman who wears Altazurra knows how to show off a naked leg from underneath an undulating flounce edged slim skirt; she knows she is in control of her own sensuality and the peaking of the thighs will grab her the attention she desires. Add fox fur to the mix, at the collar of the coat or jacket, it definitely ensures she walks into any room making quite the entrance. She is stunning in every sense of the word and her shimmering dress makes sure she and the rest of the world know it as well. The studded designs certainly make their way onto almost every skirt and dress in the collection as well.
Joseph Altuzarra certainly knew what he was doing with this collection that has come a very long way from his debut in the fashion world back in 2008. His inspirations have also incorporated somewhat of an expression from his multicultural upbringing, while the Parisian young man with a Chinese-American mother and French Basque father has certainly carved a path for himself in the American side of the fashion industry. Since 2010, Altazurra’s fashions have won him 9 different awards, including the Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2012 and the CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year Award in 2014. It’s intriguing to see what this year will bring to the young 31-year-old designer. It starts off with his showing of his new handbag collection as well, where we are treated to polished leather with large saddle shapes and thick, elaborately braided and tasselled straps. It will certainly be all the rage in the coming months, along with the provocative designs that have been so diligently pulled together for the New York Fashion Week.
