Though he has shown his beautiful collections on the Paris and Milan Fashion Week runways before, these days Antonio Berardi, a British fashion designer of Sicilian descent, takes his pieces from his eponymous label to the London Fashion Week catwalk, showing off one incredible dress after another. To date, his womenswear has been admired by the young and the old, man and woman, for which man would not want his own Lady in Red on his arm wowing society’s elite as he walks into an event with her by his side?
His first Fashion Week collection was unveiled in 1995, wherein Kylie Minogue was his main model. He is known for his sensual, figure hugging dresses that are striking in appearance, quite classical and make a woman feel like a goddess when she dons a garment from his label. Berardi ensure he uses the best in advanced fabrics and manufacturing techniques to produce the best of results. This has made him quite popular among celebrities in Hollywood and made a fan out of Victoria Beckham, Megan Fox, Eva Mendez and Amber Rose. His piece of Gwyneth Paltrow really brought the brand back on top, while his choosy nature on which celebrities to work with has created a touch of controversy, while still gaining praise from others.
Strapless body suits with super high heels, miniskirts with tulle frills, asymmetrical hems on the dresses with sparkling leggings underneath, gilded additions to the dresses in black, colors to tickle your fancy and body hugging designs a plenty, this was one show that really captivated our interests. While past shows have featured exceptional pieces in terms of red carpet worthy dresses, we did find the Antonio Berardi fall/winter 2015-2016 collection show to be lacking in some of the fun and flare that normally would define an Antonio Berardi show.
Despite the slight disappointment, we were pleasantly surprised by the use of bright colors in the initial pieces, including a sunshine yellow floral print on a blue background mixed in with more blues of different hues and fabrics to really give it that popping effect. There were even shoes in the same patterning, while we saw scarves, doll-like mini dresses, and multiple layered designs boasting this compilation. We saw the floral appear in a pretty purple and pink palette as well, while asymmetrical skirt designs and one with an obi style pink silk sash belt caught our attention fully. It was interesting to see these designs turned into ankle boots as well, completing the look with matching footwear.
While the Antonio Berardi fall/winter 2015-2016 collection started off with rather bright colors, it quickly moved into darker schemes with darker ocean blues and black hues, particularly appearing on high waist trousers and asymmetrical skirt with tight legging style pant designs that kind of reminds us of Kurdish traditional fashions, or even somewhat Hindustani. He may be known for his heelless shoes worn by Victoria Beckham, however, this time around it was all about the stilettos; stilettos on ankle boots, on patterned pumps, on open toe sandal like nude pieces, and on open toe half boot designs. At the end of the day, we did love the heavy layering of the dresses, as well as the floral inspired patterning on the very feminine tailoring.
