Badgley Mischka Spring/Summer 2016 Collection – New York Fashion Week

Timeless elegance is the first thing that comes to mind with Badgley Mischka’s spring/summer 2016 ready-to-wear line. Focusing on the glamorous world of evening wear, this season’s collection seems to fall back to decades past, pulling inspiration from the world of fashion over the last century. The two designers had no problem playing with length and toying with the boundaries that show what eveningwear can be. From shorts and miniskirts to knee and floor length dresses, Mark Badgley and James Mischka showed the expertise of their trade and displayed their unique perspective on today’s fashion.

While many designers fall to a single “wow factor” to serve as the focal point for their collection, Badgley Mischka allowed the elegant beauty of each piece to be the star. With muted, pale colors and simple patterns, the fashion duo put on an inspiring show for viewers around the world. It is clear that this line is geared toward women of all ages – women who are young at heart, and have never lost their sense of style. The Badgley Mischka girl is someone who is not tied down to a single fashion era, and is willing to travel through time to maintain the classic beauty and best features from each major fashion movement over the decades.

There is something to be said about the inspiration that really speaks to their aesthetic. Even though the simple silhouettes are reminiscent of past trends, there is a lovely freshness that plays into the wistful youthfulness of their audience. Women young and old could wear these clothes with the utmost certainty that they are beautiful and ready to face the world. The trends don’t feel old, but rather portray a timeless, classic memory of the journey the fashion industry has faced.

Watching the clothing line walk the runway is like catching a glimpse out of the window of a train car passing through time. Despite all of the small changes that differentiate the eras, there is definite cohesiveness that is not lost.

The color pallet remains constant, and there is an unmistakable sense of freedom and joy through the whole show. Soft lace and flowing organza paved the way for the Badgley Mischka spring 2016 collection, helping it achieve a feeling of elegant youth and classic beauty. This did not, however, prevent the brand from sending strong pieces down the runway. A tea-length dress with a floral lace overlay comes instantly to mind when we think of the statement pieces in the show. Each piece, as I said earlier, has its own awe-inspiring aspects, so there is no single focal point in the show. Yet, there were still pieces that were meant to be bolder and show the range that Badgley Mischka offers.

Above everything, Badgley Mischka has never compromised their perspective. They leave their mark on everything they draw inspiration from, and we can expect to see this revitalization from the decades in their future work. One thing that is for sure is that the best aspects from the world of fashion will never be lost, as long as this fashion duo is creating new takes on the fondest memories.
