The traditional Balenciaga trends have been diligently smashed and rebuilt again as Alexander Wang created the Balenciaga spring/summer 2014 collection that got unveiled at Paris Fashion Week just today. The runway this time was filled with a variety of shapes, being created as sharp edged, rounded, strict and smooth silhouettes as well.
The first element used in the very first piece of the Balenciaga show that catches the attention of the observers is the smoothly rounded and oversized shoulders according to which the first jacket was crafted. Further, this theme got expanded to the kimono-cut styles used in case of tops paired with peculiarly manufactured shorts.
Another typically Balenciaga idea was the cute cropped top plus short duet. A spectacular play was created via skirt-shorts mixtures, being slightly baggy like many other pieces of the Balenciaga spring/summer 2014 collection.
One of the most important accents of this collection is the demonstration of similarly shaped apparels having different and contrasting color shades, like it was in case of a pink-top-white-pants combination, followed by a slightly different violet-top-black-pants combo. The floral prints used here and there on some of the pieces are worth mentioning too. In case of some outfits they are presented via scrupulously worked out symmetrical design patterns. The stripy motives are also used on some tops.
The perforated leather and some proportions of chiffon are a part of the predominant background fabrics. The use of satin fabrics gifted the pieces with an additional portion of glamor and chic. Coming back to the shapes, we can’t but also mention the bateau necklines viewed at some garments. The strapless pieces were responsible for the feminine and cute looks. Talking about the latter, we immediately remember about a bit vintage style dresses, put within the frames of the modernized ideas, carrying some ruffled collars and sleeves, and looking really awe-inspiring.
We can only say that the attempt of Alexander Wang to create a modernized blend of sporty and classic-elegant styles, working on shapes and colors as primary sources, is quite effective and successful this time, too.
