First Ever Balmain Kids Line by Olivier Rousteing Revealed

When it comes to designer items, we often think about ourselves. We look for the latest pumps, the awesome handbags, the skirts with the thigh slits and the transparent tops of late. We shop till we drop, but we are thinking adult the whole time. Often, designer clothing seems to also only be created for the older populations, forgetting about a rather intriguing and profitable market: the kids! While many designers have certainly turned their attention over to the kiddie cobblers, it remains a mystery why the rest of the houses still consider fashion to be for those who have matured in mind and body already. Balmain is among the latest converts, who has discovered the potential of children’s designer lines, with Olivier Rousteing taking his work to a different level, meant to appease the mothers among his Balmain women as well.

Balmain Kids by Olivier Rousteing

The #BalmainArmy is nice and strong, the brand really capitalizing on its own hashtag, but it is the latest 55-piece strong collection for the tots that has fans grinning ear to ear and asking for more. The Balmain Kids by Olivier Rousteing line has been personally designed by the designer himself, despite the general trend to have it licensed out, and the pieces are expected to retail from around $205 to about $6000, give or take, depending on the strength of the Euro. The most expensive item is expected to cost 5500 Euros and will be an embroidered black dress, though the t-shirts are much more on the affordable side.

The sizes will range, fitting boys and girls ages 6 to 14, and they are in total Olivier style. The staff around the House even referred to the collection as little Oliviers. “When you see the Balmain children’s pieces, you can see the references that are actually part of the Balmain women’s and men’s wardrobes,” Rousteing told Vogue. “It’s easy for me to build the Balmain identity pretty coherently because I’m the same designer for men and women—and not so many houses have the same designer for both.” As for the way he sees the little ones – “I love my men’s double-breasted jacket because it’s what I wear every day, and seeing a kid wearing that is just like heaven!” the designer said.

As with the lookbook hoots for the women’s collections, it was only right to have the children’s line with a similar promotion. It was all about having fun, with Kanye West and Justin Bieber songs in the background and the kids sipping on orange juice. Speaking of Kanye, the whole idea for a children’s collection came about when Kim Kardashian and Kanye West decided they wanted Rousteing to dress their darling girl, North. As for the models in the soot, the creative director reached out to the children of his own muses, Alessandra Ambrosio and Adriana Lima, along with Jourdan Dunn and his other girls. In his mind, if the mothers are part of the Balmain world, why shouldn’t the children be as well?

The collection launches in June and we cannot wait!
