Barbara Bui Spring/Summer 2016 Collection – Paris Fashion Week

Have you ever wondered how hot pink would look like, combined with leather and fringes? Now that Barbara Bui has shown her spring/summer 2016 collection not only we know how it would look like, but we also have the undeniable proof that it is probably one of the most sensual and glam rock combinations of all time.

Born between two cultures (she is from Western and Asian descendants), Barbara’s collections have always expressed this duality, and have also made this talented woman more curious and prone to experiments with different fabrics, cuts and colors. Barbara Bui, who has been rocking the fashion industry since the early Eighties, is known for her particular perspective on fashion, which is that of a woman who isn’t afraid to show neither her strength nor her femininity, fully embracing that kind of duality that is part of the designer herself. At the same time, beginning her career as a fashion designer in the Eighties, Barbara Bui was exposed to a time when women had to dress in a more boyish way in order to be taken more seriously at the workplace/in the world, and this led her to create a type of conceptual fashion, the aim of which is to fight this norm, in order to create a more even and equal society, where women could be able to dress however they want and do not have to make a choice between their masculine and feminine side.

Given the fact that duality is her signature style, and that she still is influenced by her first years as a fashion designer, we may say that the Barbara Bui spring/summer 2016 collection is one of Bui’s best expression of an empowered woman who, being an Amazon by day, isn’t afraid to have some fun and relax by night. Brown leather pedal pushers, ponchos, crisscross cropped jackets and tops soon give us a clear perception of Bui’s idea of independent women, and show us her ability to perfectly combine leather fabrics with white and dark blue pieces of clothing. Such a combination may look ordinary or overrated, but somehow Bui manages to make it look great, giving her personal point of view and introducing us softly to the more sensual and captivating part of the line-up, which embraces dark blue crop tops, mannish suit jackets and skinny trousers.

Skillfully playing with contrasts Barbara Bui has decided to alternate these pieces with Rosa Schiaparelli’s nemesis, which look like guiding lights in a sea of dark souls. It is interesting to notice how the Amazon theme keeps on playing a major role indeed thanks to these pieces which are, conventionally speaking, more feminine rather than masculine. High-waisted leather belts help the collection achieve its warrior attitude, and help the figure look more slender and balanced.

Last but not least, slip-dresses worn over triangle bras along with deep V-neckline asymmetrical kimonos take the Barbara Bui spring 2016 collection to its sexiest turn (and give us a vague idea of what the designer is capable of when she has to deal with Easter-looking piece of clothing). At the end of the day, we may say that, without taking the extravagant turn, Barbara Bui has successfully created a feminist ready-to-wear collection that won’t disappoint its future customers.
