Bimba & Lola Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection

It was in 2012 when Vogue declared that the future looked quite bright for the Spanish based label of Bimba & Lola. It was founded back in 2005 and has a very youthful edge, something that also uses an accomplished aesthetic and luxe ideals, bringing a new edge to the fashion industry. Carven meets Jonathan Saunders here as founders Uxia and Maria Dominguez bring out a line-up every season that is worth standing up and taking note of. Even more adorable than their sense of style is the name, which was inspired by their dogs, greyhounds really, Bimba and Lola. “To create Bimba & Lola we look for inspiration in nature, art, film – even in friends and family,” it has been stated. “We know each other really well and have great respect for one another, which helps when reaching agreements.”

Bimba & Lola Fall/Winter 2015-2016 Collection

This year, we see the Bimba & Lola fall/winter 2015-2016 collection that is lovely to behold, inspired by Buffalo Bill and presenting prints with a very Western appeal. What does it mean to be a real cowboy? Apparently the Bimba & Lola ladies have it all figured out, with the aesthetically pleasing looks taking on a kitsch touch and bringing in the denim, the awesome fringes and hues of silver and gold, attributes of masculinity and femininity respectively, to the scene. Classic cowboy meets its match with then unwashed and oversized denim fabrics, the gentle feel of suede, the Western fringes and originally daring designs. We love the 1970s for this reason as well and that is the era that has been taken as inspiration for this entire year now. We love those cowboy movies and even now when something like Brokeback Mountain or Legends of the Fall hits the theatres, we are some of the first people to run in and watch. Of course, we don’t see so many good ones these days but the Wild Country has a specific allure and The Last of the Mohicans will forever remain a favourite book and film alike. Since we cannot satiate our thirst at the movies, it has done wonders for us to be presented with so many of the cowboy motifs throughout this year. Bimba & Lola has also fed beautifully into that need for more West, bringing in printed jeans and dresses that fall to the floor, shirts with funny designs across the back, stitching on the denim in heart shapes, Apache drawings in general on the garments, with lots of lighter colors such as baby pink and brightness to the designs presented. Fur and leather make their own mark here and leave us demanding to add that golden sheathe of a dress to our wardrobes.

While the dresses and the denim are awesome on their own, those oversized handbags are the deal breakers for us as we are now coveting one of those leather lovelies to add to our purse collection, whether in white, black or a rather intriguing aubergine, it matters not.
