Honoring David Bowie Burberry Style at Men’s Fashion Show

Who is David Bowie? David Robert Jones, known to the world as the English singer and songwriter David Bowie, was a multi-instrumentalist, a record producer, an arranger, painter and actor, but most important of all, he died but two days ago at the barely past retirement age of 69, after months of battling cancer. He had been going at it for 18 months it appears, though with the support of his family around, it is seen as a more or less peaceful passing. The world is weeping, the shockwaves are spreading and few truly understand why a man so you, a truly great man so young, had to go so soon.

We have loved his music for decades now, with him appearing on the scene in the 1960s and blowing us all away in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Oh how we love the “Ashes to Ashes” single, while his collaboration with Queen in 1981 truly made us happy. He was, without a doubt, one of the most influential musicians of his era, and it appears his death will be remembered all too keenly with the final release, a parting gift of sorts, called “Lazarus” for his fans. While so many weep though, there are those who are more than willing to create some sort of tribute in honor of the great man.

From Conan O’Brien’s remembrances of Bowie’s Late Night visits to Burberry’s incorporation of Bowie’s singles from the last years in its male-centric Fashion Week show through London Collections Men, the musician was more than remembered and those who had yet to hear of him immediately became ardent fans, albeit too late. Guest arrivals during the show were sound tracked to a song from the 2013 album, called “Where Are We Now?” while after the show, guests were played out with Bowie’s “Oh! You Pretty Things.”

It was beyond sweet and perfectly on track, since there is no greater honor than to be hailed great after one’s passing from this world. Those related to him, from his wife to his children, will forever be proud of the man David Bowie was and all that he accomplished in his lifetime. At least we can say that the man lived his life to the fullest and we are hoping he scratched off quite a few items from his bucket list in the last years especially.

The best parts from the Burberry men’s fall 2016 show itself were all the subtle signs pointing to Bowie, and the one really not to subtle version where a model appeared with “Bo” and “Wie” written on the palms. The collection itself features glam-rock elements of sequin addition to jackets and trousers, while one model had glitter around the eyes to go with the “crying tears of glitter” song lyrics.

It was beautiful in every way and we have to really thank Burberry for incorporating so much of Bowie into its runway presentation, as it would have meant a lot to the man as well. At the moment, we can merely look on and enjoy the sentiments while finishing up another box of tissues as we listen to his incredible tracks.
