Uniqlo’s 2016 has been full of surprises and thrilling collaborations, which will keep on revitalizing the Japanese brand next year too. As for this year’s latest collaborations, Uniqlo has treated us to the super intriguing Carine Roitfeld x Uniqlo fall 2016 capsule collection, which is finally available for purchase on Uniqlo.com and in selected Uniqlo stores!
The Carine Roitfeld x Uniqlo fall 2016 collection has been entirely approved by the world-renowned fashion editor in each aspect, as the former editor-in-chief of Vogue France tried on all of the collection’s pieces herself.
Refined and specifically created to bring out the most in both Uniqlo’s sort of feng shui approach to fashion and Roitfeld’s polished look à la français, this fall 2016 lineup is pretty affordable too, with price tags ranging from $9.90 to $199.90. As for the pieces included, it is packed with all the essentials one may need throughout the colder seasons, whether it is for a day at the office or a fancy chic formal event.
To make things even better and more appealing, Uniqlo’s creative director Naoki Takizawa revealed the creative process behind the collection, which included getting intimate, fashion-wise, with Roitfeld.
“I visited her apartment and she showed me many things from her closet,” Takizawa said. “There are so many pictures of Carine on the Internet so I picked, then ask her, ‘Okay, which outfits are your favorites?'”
After that conversation held in France, Takizawa and Roitfeld headed back to Japan, creating the perfect lineup. As described by Roitfeld, the collection is composed of “very simple clothes” yet with a special forethought for the proportions. “The length of the sleeve, the neckline, the shoulder… everything is important even with a classic piece, it has to be perfection,” Carine Roitfeld explained.
The collection is therefore filled with both clean cuts and more flared lines, which overall combine Uniqlo’s geometric style with Roifeld’s successful feminine style. Flared sweaters, double breasted pinstriped jackets, coats in leather and warm tweed skirts are thus at the core of the Carine Roitfeld x Uniqlo fall 2016 collection, serving us the perfect dream array of must-have staples what we can start updating our wardrobe with.
Although classic, aside from few motorbike-inspired apparel alternatives, the collection is strong on quirky accessories too, here revamped with faux animal prints and furry textures. The latter might come by surprise for those who are used to Uniqlo’s minimal style, but are surely a breath of fresh air for the Japanese house.
As for how to style all of the pieces with one another, Roitfeld shared her must-have number one rule, namely that of never fearing a whimsical combination of staples.
“This is a collection of all my bad taste mixed together. I like to mix things you aren’t supposed to put together—the flower dress with the leopard-print coat, it is my fantasy, I love it. Also, pink trousers with leopard is very good together. I like to mix what supposedly doesn’t go well together,” she told the Coveteur.
It is the third time Naoki Takizawa and Carine Roitfeld have worked together on a conceptually elegant lineup, and we hope their solid marketing relationship will go on in the seasons to come too.
