The famous luxurious French fashion house Chanel probably needs neither being advertised nor introduced. We mean, the label is more than a century old; it is one of the most famous fashion brands in the world and today, their already well-known logo can be seen on clothing, accessories, sunglasses, watches, cosmetics, perfumes and jewelry. The name of the French brand brings adjectives such as “luxurious, elegant, original” to our minds. In a word, Chanel is not just a brand; Chanel is philosophy!
The ultra-creative Chanel spring/summer 2015 collection presented today in this early Parisian morning was everything the French brand has always been about: a blend of restrained elegance and luxury. For his new collection, Karl Lagerfeld, the creative director of the brand, made an ample use of the tweed fabric. The collection started off with Cara Delevingne marching down the catwalk sporting blue textured tweed pants and a matching jacket worn over a colorfully printed shirt. The tweed was dominant at the beginning of the show and kept making appearances throughout the whole presentation. We also had the material used in wide leg pants and a matching short-sleeved jacket in red and blue, a bluish, textured jacket with notched necklines worn over high collared shirts and colorful ties and so on.
The collection was also rather imbued with colorful and patterned pieces, which looked quite playful, yet casual. Here the separates were prevailing and we had wide leg high waisted pants with colorful long jackets, A-line skirts paired with matching double breasted jackets, miniskirts designed of a thick material teamed with fringy short sweaters and long tweed jackets, simple tweed skirts in purple worn with short-sleeved shirts in the same hue and topped with matching jackets, colorful long coats with bell sleeves, high waisted A-line skirts with belts combined with cropped tops with short sleeves made of tweed.
At the final stage of the show the colors got calmer and more neutral, the fabrics used – more lighter and ethereal. Lagerfeld had used army green, pale blue and pink, dark blue and the classic black and white to design timeless pieces that were effortlessly chic and casual. The Chanel spring/summer 2015 collection could not but include some elements of shimmer with which several dresses and blouses had been decorated. For footwear, the French brand presented shiny, golden small heels and knee-length boots decorated with colorful florals and patterns. Unique edge was added to the pieces with the help of different shoulder bags, handbags and clutches designed by using the already-iconic tweed and leather.
The gorgeous and stunning clothing pieces and accessories were not the only things we will remember about this year’s Chanel spring/summer 2015 collection presentation. As a unique way to close the show, Karl Lagerfeld and Co. had decided to organize a unique protest with special banners with messages such as “Free Freedom”, “Make Fashion Not War” (this message, by the way, was also seen on small clutch-like shoulder bags from the new Chanel collection), “Be Different” and so on. Some of the models were even armed with loudspeakers of which all sorts of chants were heard.
Like it is always with Chanel shows, this year’s unique presentation in “Boulevard Chanel” (the Grand Palais was turned into an authentic Parisian street, where the models resembled girlfriends having a casual stroll in twos and even threes, chatting, smiling and showing off their iconic Chanel pieces) was unique, memorable and unexpected. We are more than sure this show will be talked about for a long time, while the clothes and accessories demonstrated will become It girls’ and trendsetters’ new obsessions!
