When it comes to painting the town red and making it a red-letter day, nothing works better than the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. But in case of this joie de vivre music festival held annually in April at the Empire Polo Club in the Coachella Valley, a red-letter day does not quite cover it. More precisely we would call it a thread of red-letter days, the whole two weekends full of rock, indie, electro and hip hop chords, pool parties, finger-licking food and dizzy cocktails, new fashion and beauty muses, crazy dances alfresco, giggles and sniggers and of course, myriads of instagrammable intriguing poses for photo shoots. With the Coachella 2016 weekend 1 already over and with so many events, moments and scenes still to be discussed, let us throw a look back at that three-day (April 15-17) sun-soaked bacchanal, unearth 5 things about the overall mood and style of the first week of Coachella 2016 and count the days until the next Coachella week to come.
1. Who Were the Attendees?
Given that landing on the most-anticipated and much-buzzed-about festival of the spring season might cost one a pretty penny if he/she is after to party to the hilt, it’s more common to see the Coachella Valley bursting at the seams with the most prominent figures of the music world, cinematography and fashion arena. Coachella 2016 was no different again widely opening its hospitable doors to such veteran attendees as Paris Hilton, Vanessa Hudgens, Kate Bosworth, Katy Perry, Jared Leto, Emma Roberts, Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson.
While some of the celebrities have been rocking every single corner of the Empire Polo Club for many years in a row, others, like social media sensation sisters Kylie and Kendall Jenners, at-the-top-of-the-ladder singer-songwriter Taylor Swift or the American fashion model Hailey Baldwin are fairly to be called fresh faces to have been attended the festival for only 2-3 years from now. This was also a good chance to feast eyes on the chemistry happening between such cute couples as Alessandra Ambrosio and Jamie Mazur, Evan Spiegel and Miranda Kerr, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber or Twin Shadow and Zoë Kravitz.
2. All Eyes on Celebrity Hair Makeovers and Other Beauty Moments
The big names in the beauty transformation zone could not miss out on showing off some shocking hair makeovers at Coachella. When just a few days before Coachella weekend Taylor Swift bleached her hair for Vogue cover, we were more than sure that ‘Bleachella’ is just what Coachella really needs.
Kylie Jenner, who is just following in her older Kardashian sister’s footsteps, seems to be strongly determined to test out every single hair shade happening in the nature – ditching her first-day flaming peach-orange strands and adopting blond + pink + blue + purple rainbow hair for the second day.
Hailey Baldwin went grey; Emma Roberts embraced auburn shade with blonde accents; Katy Perry went naughty with her twin pink buns, while Kendall Jenner’s double top buns got flattered through sparkling deluge in her hair part. But when it comes to showing a striking nail art sample, Vanessa Hudgens was rocking here with her matte chocolate brown nails embellished with crystals that reportedly cost her $190.
3. Plenty of Boho-Chic Fashion Moments
We are really having trouble to call to mind any other grander ceremony demonstrating so much boho-chic atmosphere than the Coachella Music Festival. When you are alfresco, with so many night parties and poolside leisures underway, with the sun generously spreading its rays, nothing is left than baring the legs and the belly as much as possible.
The previous weekend’s command was to ditch high heels and luxury gowns and take over frayed jean shorts going shorter and shorter, crop tops going more and more cropped, crocheted vests, skirts or dresses like that one hugging Kendall’s sensual body, many tassels and fringes swinging to and fro, a smattering of glam-rock glimmer and shimmer, front-knotted cowboy shirts, intriguing off-shoulders and sky-high slits, lace-up sandals and athleisure sneakers.
And when the pool parties were on, the Coachella queens embarked on to show off their swimsuit collections finished off with stacks of bracelets, brimmed hats, headbands or typical-of-Coachella flower crowns. We can rightfully say that Coachella tends to set the upcoming summer fashion trends, and this year was no exception!
4. The Best Advertising Moments at Coachella
Coachella 2016 was the best opportunity for fashion and makeup brands to debut and promote their products. Katy Perry showed off the coral matte Katy Kat lipstick on her Instagram account as the juicy fruit of her collaboration with Cover Girl, while Kylie Jenner released three more metal matte lipsticks as the replenishment of her cosmetics line. But it was definitely Revolve clothing that went to all marbles, announcing same-day delivery to Coachella Valley, then turning the fashion bloggers’ (Julie Sariñana, Negin Mirsalehi, Chiara Ferragni, Kristina Bazan, Gala Gonzalez, Aimee Song and many others) Snapchat posts from Coachella Festival into crazy sales.
5. The Most Memorable Music Episodes
After all Coachella is a music festival, so in the end a bit of stuff about the musical shows. The festival saw many striking and worth-to-be-endlessly-discussed musical episodes starting from unexprected reunions of LCD Soundsystem, Guns N’ Roses and the Kills to the Coachella debut of the French singer-songwriter Christine and the Queens to the stage appearance of Australian musician Sia who is always mysteriously eschewing live concerts.
