Did you know that Cupcakes and Cashmere actually can be a rather good mix? We did not either, but we love both equally as it is, so we will take care not to smear our cupcakes on our cashmere sweaters. Perhaps the most interesting news of late in the fashion industry, it appears as if fashion bloggers are taking their work to heart and beginning to offer their own insights into proper design. Emily Schuman of Cupcakes and Cashmere has officially been added to the list of bloggers, an ever-growing one at that, who have branched into designing their own line-ups. After seven long years of patience and winning the right crowd, it seems as if it is about time the lady behind the blog became well known in her own right. The Cupcakes and Cashmere page has been known to post about lipstick trends, job interviews and cupcakes, without a doubt. Now, she is bringing her own clothing to the market, designed by Schuman herself. They fall under the license of BB Dakota.
The Cupcakes and Cashmere BB Dakota collection is a lovely one it appears. There are some 40 pieces to take home from the spread available, as Schuman brings her LA experience to the Golden State. Taking her inspiration from the edgy and the urban combined with the preppy and the polished, this line-up is all about keeping things classy and thoroughly relaxed.
“We developed a line that can be mixed and matched with anything in your closet, focused on quality tailoring and materials, while hitting an affordable price point,” said Schuman with a smile on her face. According to the chief executive officer of BB Dakota, Schuman has certain style that is both pretty and preppy, without being overtly sexy in appearance. For the past 18 months, BB Dakota has been in the works and we finally find the debut collection to be just what we wanted, with black and white striped tees, lacy miniskirts complete with the scallop hems, leather jackets with asymmetrical hems and sweaters meant for fishermen that have been frayed up the spine.
This is the first license for BB Dakota, despite the collaboration with Bliss Lau and Ohne TItel designers in the past, and it is sure to make waves, setting a precedent for future pieces created under the cupcakes and Cashmere brand. Despite the higher pricing by about 20% from the core business when it comes to BB Dakota, and despite seeing it retailing for $80 to $450, it appears as if there is great interest in the collection itself. Nordstrom holds exclusivity on brick and mortar sales, while Shopbop.com will be the only e-commerce site carrying the products as of July 6, 2015. The budgets have been doubled, the reception to the blogger is looking great, and the ideals of near future expansion into plus sized pieces are in place. BB Dakota does already have up to size 26 at the moment, available at Bloomingdale’s and Gwinnie Bee. It is an interesting business venture, however, and the years of developing the best fashion content have made Schuman more or less an expert in the field. We cannot wait to grab a few of the pieces off the racks!
