Custo Barcelona, Custo Dalamau’s world known Spanish fashion label, was present at this year’s New York Fashion Week as well, debuting the Custo Barcelona spring/summer 2015 collection. If you browse through Dalamau’s previous designs, you will surely notice the most common motifs appearing on his designs. Custo is a big fan of floral and animal prints, although Japanese iconography, Manga comics, Hindu imagery and the pop art of the seventies have often been depicted on Custo Barcelona outfits. Throughout years (the label was founded back in 1996), his work has been so exquisite, so desirable and so well in demand that his designs have been copied one too many times and his shirt imitations can be found even today (which, by the way, does not seem to worry the designer and his brother, David, who also is in fashion industry and is the co-founder of the label). The label also has a line of fragrances for both men and women, and a very one of a kind collection of sunglasses.
The Custo Barcelona spring/summer 2015 collection was all about dazzling colors and floral, abstract, psychedelic patterns. Everything was so colorful and diverse, that it’s impossible to point out one prevailing color. We loved how the show started all soft with white lacey dresses with interesting side cutouts; skirts and minimalistic tops in abstract prints; deep V-neck jumpsuits of the same material and color with thick black belts and so on. Animal prints, of course, could not be missing from a Custo Barcelona collection. Being also a fan of all sorts of stripes, it’s not surprising that the Custo brothers went for a zebra print. Combining the print with colors such as maroon, brown and black, they got an image of an eccentric girl. We saw the same print later on the show combined with a hip hugger mini skirt in horizontal maroon and black stripes. The effect was astonishing.
Another interesting aspect of the Custo Barcelona spring/summer 2015 collection was the stained-glass looking pants combined with half sleeve shimmery tops. All in all, shimmer was present at almost every stage of the show, and the colors kept becoming brighter and brighter.
Custo’s swimwear collection is worthy of a mention as well. One piece of swimwear that was particularly interesting to us was a lacy one. Yes, you heard that right! Off shoulder lacey top with a cutout shaped like a diamond around the belly area and lacey bikini bottoms proved that a piece of swimwear can be elegant too. The pieces making up the swimwear were pretty minimalistic. “The goal was to show the body,” says the designer Custo Dalmau.
Once you get acquainted with those extremely lively and creative designs from the Custo Barcelona spring/summer 2015 collection, we are more than sure you’ll be among the biggest of fans of the Catalan master, of course given the fact that you love being eccentric and different and do not mind to stand out of the crowd. Because with Custo Barcelona pieces, that is exactly what you will do.
