Despite his young age and the little time he has spent in the fashion industry, Croatian designer Damir Doma has managed to create a unique style, which is only characteristic of him. Doma’s style is often referred to as “poetic” and “intellectual”, his clothes are simple and light, they are easy to put on, easy to wear, there’s nothing complex about the designer’s creations, in a word. Wearing Damir Doma clothes, women put the emphasis on their own beauty, not letting the clothes prevent onlookers from noticing the true inner female charm. All these characteristic features apply to the newest Damir Doma spring/summer 2015 collection that has just wowed everyone at Paris Fashion Week!
Doma once said that his designs were for people “who think differently, who want to be different from the rest. For people who are self-confident. I believe, that to be an interesting person one needs to wear interesting things”. And the Damir Doma spring/summer 2015 collection perfectly fit the definition. The designer, who believes that using too many colors in designing clothes is a cheap way of drawing attention, had created a collection with quite monochrome pieces. Doma had used denim to design shorts, jackets and capris, which he paired with white cotton blouses and pants. Particularly noteworthy were the black and white jumpsuits and long-sleeved knee-length dresses designed from a thick material.
At the second part of the show blue proved to be the leading color. We saw dark blue long patterned shirts made of a sheer fabric paired with brown shorts, zip up dresses in dark blue worn under brown short jackets, all blue suit pieces consisting of ankle length pants and matching asymmetrical jackets, and sleeveless tops of the same material.
The collection became more textured and patterned at the next stage of the show, where we saw high waisted dark brown skirts reaching below the knees paired with white V-neck short tops, turtlenecks made of a thin fabric and dark olive capris topped with black and white patterned tops. Before ending his show in all dark blue pieces, Damir Doma had decided to add a bit of color to the collection by designing orange netty loose fitting V-neck tank tops, which he had paired with brown patterned skirts and a couple of dresses in white, black and gray that had patches of orange on them.
The all-blue outfits demonstrated at the end provided elegant and smart finish to the show. We had smart sleeveless dresses with interesting layering; smart pants paired with matching jackets (note the “dress strap” running around the neckline of the jacket. Very cool huh?), long vests reaching under hips and dresses resembling sleeveless coats.
With a few exceptions, the Damir Doma models were sporting closed toe flat shoes. Of the noteworthy accessories from the show we can’t but mention those chunky bracelets and necklaces with chunky pendants that were adorning the wrists and necks of Doma models.
We loved the sense of moderation and restraint the new Damir Doma spring/summer 2015 collection had. It was an interesting collection with plenty of details and nuances worth scrutinizing.
