Derek Lam Spring/Summer 2013 RTW – New York Fashion Week
Vibrant colors, bold designs and structured lines are the things describing Derek Lam’s signature style and the trends shown at the Derek Lam spring/summer 2013 runway show unveiled at New York Fashion Week. The designer forecasted an autumn-like spring full of graphic, textural vibes, deep reds, golden browns, dark blues, greens and yellows, as well as stiff fabrics. Mixing vividly colored leather pieces, bold prints and metallic shades with natural tones and plaids, Lam created the feel as if we are moving on to fall, instead of spring. “Modernism with unexpected warmth was my thought throughout,” he said.
The inspiration behind the stunning Derek Lam spring/summer 2013 collection was painter Barkley Hendricks’ series of portraits titled “Birth of the cool”. This was clearly expressed in the bold leather crop tops, pleated dresses, metallic pencil skirts, macramé tops and skirts, as well as cool trench-coats. The silhouettes showcased derived from the sportswear classics the designer is so much fond of: trenches, shift dresses, T-shirts and halters.
Judging by the Derek Lam spring/summer 2013 collection, the upcoming warm season is going to be again all about bold crop tops (learn how to wear crop tops here), leather skirts, eye-feasting patterns, lace, macramé and belted trenches. Beauty wise, think all-things-natural, such as sleek hair and shimmery silver eyeshadow.
