Sunny Barcelona, its rich culture, famous graffiti artists, the passionate Spanish women and the city’s famous buildings adorned with subtle modernist motifs served as a fantastic source of inspiration for the Desigual spring/summer 2016 collection that flooded the catwalk with signature wild prints and bright colors yesterday, but also lots of handmade details that added so much charm and spice to the collection. It’s quite natural that you may often turn to your roots to find inspiration and the world-famous Barcelona-based brand managed to depict its homeland with all its charm and vibrant attitude. As always, we saw a diversity of styles and eclectic designs yesterday, all of which had two things in common – bright accents and a distinctive hippy-chic mood that has always described Desgiual’s signature style. And, of course, all this was enriched with the brand’s philosophy of love and happiness resulting into a super-cheerful and memorable fashion show.
The entire Desigual spring 2016 collection targeted three types of women – the sophisticated lady with a feminine style, the youthful and energetic woman with a relaxed and sporty-chic style and the fan of all things eclectic and sensual. There were dresses galore in different styles and lengths, embellished with stripes, geometric patterns, leaves and tribal motifs, but also occasional monochrome pieces that you can always relate to. This time around, the brand stayed away from mixing different crazy prints in single looks, instead creating kind of a “polished” style by sticking to one particular print for one look.
Skirts were mainly cut slightly above or below the knee length coming in subtle pleated designs and enhanced with various prints, from color-blocked geometric motifs to gingham patterning matched with abstract brushstrokes. They were mainly matched with triangle bikini tops worn underneath see-through colorful blouses or crop tops worn with brightly colored coats or jackets. Interestingly, pretty summer-ready pieces were thus combined with more autumnal looks and this referred to textural plays as well. We saw knitwear as well coming in the form of joggers or sleeveless elongated blouses that were topping colorful short-sleeve dresses creating a curious game of layering.
What we especially love about Desigual in general is their patchworked and embroidered denim and we saw an abundance of it yesterday night as well. There were stylish denim shorts, embellished sleeveless denim vests, jeans with a bright patchwork of glittering fabrics, cropped sleeveless chambray shirts enhanced with prints and youthful jumpsuits that everyone would love to get. In addition to this, we also a few quite mature looks, including the black crochet dress topped with the white patterned coat or the lace-sleeve white maxi dress with black patterns that can be an interesting summer evening outfit.
If it’s Desigual, the accessory game should be strong and funny and we were, of course, treated to an array of crazy headpieces, sporty shoes worn with interesting feathered or lace socks, handbags and wild septum rings that served as another eye-catching accent on the models’ faces besides the bright orange-red lipstick. Overall, it was quite a toned-down show, not so typical of Desigual, which you will either love or hate, but at the end of the day there is hardly any collection that appeals to everyone!
