From the very first look up to the end, the Diane von Furstenberg spring/summer 2015 collection was made to charm with its breezy and romantic style reminiscent of “A nostalgic collage of colors and shapes of the Côte d’Azur in the fifties—when it was truly glamorous!” as the designer put it. It was perhaps the most beautiful and feminine line unveiled on the fourth day of New York Fashion Week spring 2015, and what’s more all these pretty day clothing pieces are so easy to wear, mix and match creating breathtaking and ladylike looks. It’s a line that makes a woman want to look and feel feminine and beautiful, something which has always defined DVF’s stunning style.
The Diane von Furstenberg spring/summer 2015 collection seemed to be a celebration of the classic gingham patterns put in different shades and scales and always looking undeniably chic. Diane had Bardot’s lovely gingham dresses in mind when creating these “picnic dresses”, which appeared in black and white for the start and then started to take tones of green and blue too. The next descriptive elements of the line was the short lengths placing the focus on the beautiful legs of the wearers, as well as the high slits and lots of crop tops and bra tops, which were even more than Diane’s signature wrap dresses. All the looks demonstrated bore an enchanting carefree attitude, thoroughly capturing the spirit of the Mediterranean!
No wonder, femininity was the focus of the entire line, since apart from two pairs of classic high-waisted pants (which still looked elegant and ladylike) and a couple of short tailored shorts, the collection demonstrated all the possible forms and styles of mini dresses and some breezy maxis too for the days when you want to look special. Diane’s signature little wrap dresses adorned with lovely patterns, baby-doll dresses, side-wrap airy skirts matched with lovely bra tops mainly, duos of printed skirts and shorts with matchy tops, sunny bright yellow printed mini and maxi dresses, a couple of green options and blue ones, as well as some charming pink looks and two white options completely adorned with bright brushstroke prints (one demonstrated by the one and only Naomi Campbell at the end of the show) are the perfect summer beach holiday worthy pieces we are more than sure to see a lot in the upcoming warm season. Next to those ginghams, pop art and brushstroke prints, there were also some classic stripes and leaf prints, the latter used on a rich blue background (by the way this isn’t the first time we have seen leaf prints on the runway this year. Does it mean such patterns are going to reign in the new season?).
The looks were perfectly polished and minimalist in terms of accessories, since we only saw the same gingham patterned heeled sandals and roomy bags in the same motifs. The models’ makeup was spectacular featuring romantic smokey eyes and bare lips, while the hair was left loose and effortless.
The Diane von Furstenberg spring/summer 2015 collection show was certainly a triumph and we are confident you’ll need at least one dress from this line to triumph in the coming spring too!
