“New York, New York” is always a theme for Donna Karan, and it seems like the designer will never lack imagination to express her love for her native town. This year, the fall collection of her secondary clothing line, DKNY, was presented on one of the runways of New York Fashion Week with a magical background of Technicolor NY images. And the DKNY fall/winter 2013-2014 collection had a distinctive theme, as the show notes revealed it “has its way with iconic classics.” This is a beautiful start for the brand to celebrate her 25th anniversary next year.
Although we are used to seeing lots of sport touches from DKNY, this year, the DKNY fall/winter 2013-2014 collection went for more classic, elegant and hip-hop styles, nodding to the Nineties understated elegance. There were cool oversized parkas and sweatshirts, giraffe-printed slouchy knitted sweaters, skirts and dresses, skinny pants, silhouette-embracing dresses with color-blocking effects in neutral shades, tailored pants matched with masculine blazers, flirty mini dresses and relaxed evening gowns. And, of course, sportswear was there too, as the line featured anoraks, varsity jackets, neoprene skater dresses and knit beanies.
The color palette of the DKNY fall/winter 2013-2014 collection came in neutral shades of camel, brown, black, white and gray, but there were also eye-popping reds, shocking pinks and gorgeous blues. Leather details and sheer fabrics were combined with suiting fabrics and silk, while oversized leather bags, cool high-heeled ankle boots, knitted hats and sunglasses finished of the sizzlinglooks. Overall, the DKNY fall/winter 2013-2014 collection was very-very modern and absolutely fabulous, ideal for finding its place in a cosmopolitan woman’s fall wardrobe!
