Have you seen the latest in the couture fall collections? If there is one line-up of lovely outfits we adore these days that is the Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda fall 2015 collection, with the ball gown styles and rather intricate headpieces. It is what the noble aristocrats of times past would have worn, expect in a modernized design meant to give the ladies a nostalgic feel and revert the mind’s desired back to childhood when we all wanted to play the part of the princess. So when we see the Alta Moda collection appear, for the 6th season in a row in terms of Dolce & Gabbana, we are delighted to no end.
What exactly is Alta Moda though? We write it in capital letters because it is the height of haute couture. It is made to serve the 1% of the 1%, meaning a very niche population that is comprised of very few people. It is for the extremely privileged who want to look different, unique, and who find even the haute couture pieces to not be specific enough to suit their needs. The first of the shows began in Toarmina, Sicily and now take place in Portofino, Italy. The latest was held to emulate the fairies in Midsummer Night’s Dream and created to look deliberately surreal. “I want to bring them to a place where fantasy and reality become confused,” said Domenico Dolce during his garden party last night. The lawn served as a runway, while the aspects of fantasy tales were brought to life, Roman centurions and Renaissance pages and all. Land and sea meld in Portofino, and that is exactly the fusion that inspired a rather interesting show throughout the night.
Some of the guests arrived by yacht as well, particularly one Russian client. We can imagine the spirit that overtook the guests as well as the high fashion customers came to see what the cream of the crop is this year. It is interesting to imagine your customers trying on garments after dinner, but is exactly what happened as they took to the colorful, garden inspired pieces with gusto, with flowing long trains and corseted bodies, flowers, fruits and birds gracing the skirts.
Fur found its way into the Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda fall 2015 line-up as well, appearing on midi dresses of spectacular embroidery and colors, feet clad in ankle strapped sandals. But by golly were those skirts amazing, kind of like pieces meant to be showcased at Cinderella’s ball. Peacock feathers, flowers and gilded designs created the interesting headgear, each gracing a model in specific attire meant to entice a certain type of customer. While some of the dresses bordered on Victorian princess, others had a distinctive noble maiden look to them which spoke strongly of innocence and beautiful dreams. Considering the fairies dancing around on hoops all over the garden, this is certainly easy to imagine.
Trouser and blazer sets were seen as well, but not in such abundance as the evening gowns; we did, however, notice quite a few skirts falling to midi height. Between all the gold and impeccable beauty, we must say we are thoroughly mesmerized and can imagine the guests having been so as well!
