Dolce & Gabbana‘s latest summer 2016 campaign involved releasing a series of posts to social media, chronicling what they have called a “guide to making the most of the Cannes Film Festival.” Each post consists of a few photos from the campaign’s photoshoot and a few “rules” correlating to the photos. The campaign was photographed by Luca Maria Morelli and Alessandro Maria Morelli, and featured models Kamila Hansen, Rachel Thomas, and Xavier Serrano.
The Facebook posts began with three numbered rules, made to be specific to the Cannes festival itself – Party hard, pose on the Croisette, and take festival worthy selfies. These rules could easily be applied to any other aspect of life as well, especially for the summertime, and definitely relate to the other rules that were featured with the photo sets posted at later times.
Now, where does any sort of festival or ceremony begin? At the red carpet, of course! This brought the label to their first photo set posting, shot on a vintage-styled red carpet. According to this post, an important rule of thumb is to “light up the Red Carpet, stand out of the crowd and make friends with the locals.”
This is a great rule, especially with the perfect photos next to it, showing local festival mavens posing with the models. A gold suit and peace signs thrown into the air, mixed with the filtered photos brought in a vintage ’60s vibe, which was befitting of the 69th annual Cannes Film Festival. These photos showcased the D&G banana leaf print in a long sleeved gown, and that pop of color really stole the show.
The next set features models in loud prints at a D&G storefront, and advises readers to “choose show stopping accessories, shop till you drop, chronicle every fun moment.” This is some great advice for any festival or social gathering, and can really help start the life of the party. Those who stand out in a crowd won’t be lacking in stylish clothes and accessories! This set showcased the label’s majolica print.
Again featuring the lovely banana leaf pattern, the third photo set in Dolce & Gabbana’s Cannes 2016 inspired campaign was shot outside of the Grand Hyatt Cannes Hotel Martinez. With all of the people around, this would be a great place to apply the accompanying rule: “head to where the crowds are gathering and never blend in with the crowds.” Using the fabulous accessories as advised by the previous rule, you should have no trouble sticking out a bit when you join in the inevitable crowds, especially as a part of the D&G ad campaign!
Whether you’re partaking in the festival festivities or not, being around fabulously dressed people and spending some time under the sun are two essential parts of anyone’s summer life, which brings us to the next campaign photo set: a classic beach scene featuring the brand’s Sicilian Carretto pattern.
“Surround yourself with friends and catch some rays on the Riviera’s beaches.” Now that’s some advice that everyone should live by, at least to some extent.
And last, but certainly not least, a bit of a more intimate scene is staged, right on the docks. “Take an ice-cream break, dress to impress and remember to cherish who you’re with.” Probably the most important advice of the bunch, don’t take your surroundings for granted and enjoy the simple things in life. Although the show-stopping daisy print of the dress in these shots isn’t all that simple! But remember, it is all about the company! D&G is keeping it real, here.
All in all, Dolce & Gabbana’s summer 2016 ad campaign showed an all-encompassing view of summer, all by revolving around the Cannes Film Festival. All of this advice is perfect for the event, and for the entirety of summer. Play around, dress well, and don’t forget to live the D&G lifestyle; you’ll be set for the perfect summer, according to this ad campaign.
