#DGFabulousFantasy: Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2016 Tells Its Own Fairy Story

Dolce & Gabbana would probably stop throwing us into ecstasy when hell freezes over. If you are great fan of the famous Italian duo then you know it like the back of your hand that they are shoo-ins for contriving a somewhat pretty theme and building up a whole collection around it. Today was no different. Dolce & Gabbana fall/winter 2016-2017 RTW, Sunday, 28th February, 2016 were the clues flooding the whole social network but it was the hashtag ‪#‎DGFabulousFantasy‬ that set us into great anticipation to feast on their delicious tidbits soon enough.

Dolce & Gabbana Fall/ Winter 2016-2017 RTW - Milan Fashion Week

The great designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana fired on all cylinders to jog our memories and bring to our views those nostalgic images of childhood. From this time onward getting into your second childhood with your favorite fairy tales does not only mean to lay eyes on lovely Walt Disney cartoons, but also to delve into the Dolce & Gabbana fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection knee-deep in heroes, key objects and venues extracted from Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and Snow White.

For those of us sitting right there at the delectable show, everything was more than realistic. And it was not only about fantasy garments, but about the runway venue decorations, as well. There was a veritable tree with red apples hanging down, the pumpkin taken from Cinderella and the after-spell carriage, some pieces of sweet fruits piled somewhere in the corner, some floor sweeping supplies at Cinderella’s home and the big wall clock to strike 12.

Searching for a celestial dress to come right down Cinderella’s alley was a success. It appeared at the beginning of the show in the guise of a sky blue lurex dress with some sparkles and puffed sleeves, while the model’s neck was embellished with a tonal bow-shaped choker. The friendly mice that have lent a helping hand to Cinderella sewing her staggering ball dress were also in attendance on an ivory dress with threads and needles in their hands, while a black midi dress was hosting that lost glass pump.

The Sleeping Beauty tweeting birdies were on another black stunner. That poisonous red apple having made the Snow White faint was delivered in droves at the Dolce & Gabbana fall 2016 fashion show on a lovely midi dress all wrapped with red apple prints, while another red stunner presented embroidered dwarfs mixed with flower beds. The magical mirror of Snow White’s stepmother that was always giving an accurate answer to her question “Who is the fairest in the land?” was also appearing here and there, like on a black velvet dress together with the image of the wicked stepmother titivating herself in front of the console mirror. A camel brown skirt with visible black seams was combining two pivotal objects – a mirror and a clock, all rolled into one.

But you could also observe many wind-up soldiers, candlesticks, a chandelier, a merry-go-round, a palace, different coquettish women spruced up to the ball and a pumpkin carriage stamped with the words Searching for my prince. Mannish suits in black or red decorated with froggings all over and tassels on the shoulders were also appearing as a homage to the loving princes of the fairy tales.

This time around the designers’ soft spot for flowers and the floral fields of the fairy tales have clashed so effectively. A black sheer gown was embellished with aromatic roses with two of them looking so realistic on the shoulders, while a midi dress with long sleeves was literally chock-a-block with iridescent flowers. But we mostly went into raptures with those ethereal bathrobes all covered with big 3D roses worn over intimate lingerie pieces.

The shimmering garlands we are so used to applying when decorating New Year trees are also ideal materials for stunning dresses. The designer duo could not but touch on their iconic all black body-hugging wiggle dresses and leopard prints that branched out into feline images splattered on a series of pieces. Mary Janes with silvery or golden sparkles, with pompoms or studs, floral wreaths and embellished headbands, tiny bejeweled handbags or square travel bags came to participate in that whole pulchritude and delicacy.

Glittering sequined dresses were peeping out throughout the whole Dolce & Gabbana FW 2016 collection but truth be told, it came as an out-and-out surprise for us to be attacked by an army of models in silver, rose, and magenta sequined minidresses at the end of the show. The once upon a time and happily live after #‎DGFabulousFantasy‬ drew to a close and authentically did it with flying colors.
