Donna Karan Fall/Winter 2013-2014 RTW – New York Fashion Week

While her secondary line, DKNY, is always more inclined towards a youthful, cheerful and sporty style, Donna Karan’s Donna Karan fashion always brings more mature and elegant looks. This year, she again managed to create the dazzling and bring loads of refinement and femininity to New York Fashion Week. The newest Donna Karan fall/winter 2013-2014 collection goes back to the roots of the legendary fashion house and brings the “seven easy pieces” that established her name in the fashion industry. It’s a collection all about the body, the silhouette and it’s just fantastic!

“Absolutely Donna Karan. Can’t be anybody else,” the designer tried to describe the Donna Karan fall/winter 2013-2014 collection to WWD. She also revealed that her work has always been inspired by her late husband’s, Stephan Weiss’ art. “If you look at Stephan’s sculpture, it’s all about the body.…It’s my DNA. It’s who I am,” she said. In the show notes, the designer stayed loyal to the theme and called herself “a New York woman, embracing the world, every culture.”
“Sensual. Soulful. Sculptural.” was the name of the Donna Karan fall/winter 2013-2014 collection, it already spoke for itself. The collection featured 39 looks, which wear all bout body-hugging silhouettes, femininity and sexiness. The collection featured skinny-fit jersey dresses, asymmetrically draped capes, sculpted coats with or without capelets, and, of course, dramatic evening gowns. Layering, bonding contrasting fabrics with each other and always sticking to the silhouette were the techniques used for designing these wow-worthy pieces.
The Donna Karan fall/winter 2013-2014 collection brings versatile shades of black, brown, gray and rust and shows a nice play of leather, sheer fabrics, wool and fur. Gorgeous thigh-high boots, high heeled pumps, fur hats and leather gloves were the accessory choices for the fabulous looks presented, and the sleek high ponytails and sexy smokey eye makeup perfectly matched the mood of the show. Although so simplistic and minimalist, the Donna Karan fall/winter 2013-2014 collection definitely came to be one of the most glamorous and sensual collection unveiled during Fashion Week.
