For the upcoming fall season, many fashion houses and designers decided to inject innovation into their creations moving away from their roots and offering something unexpected and new to their customers. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen also belong to this group of creative minds, who decided to explore femininity for their new Elizabeth and James fall/winter 2015-2016 collection. Their signature style is usually characterized with relaxed silhouettes, casual and masculine details that always look chic and timeless, however, for fall their creations exude a big dose of understated elegance and ladylike allure. From the color palette chosen to the beautiful game of layering, every little detail was well thought over to make this collection one of the most wearable, functional and comfy fall 2015 fashion lines.
The entire collection comes in a restricted and muted color palette featuring lots of blacks, navy blues and grays, at times accompanied by deep lilacs, purples or creams. The designs are mostly monochrome, however, there are two or three printed staples as well using abstract motifs. There is lots of knitwear used, mostly in the forms of chunky sleeveless turtlenecks that come combined with elegant tailored pants or skirts. The elongated gray mohair cardigan used as a wrap dress fastened with a thin belt and worn over a black turtleneck illustrates the new femininity the designer duo has been experimenting with for fall.
“It’s a lot sexier than in the past,” Mary-Kate explained talking about the style behind their new season collection. And by saying sexy, she doesn’t mean flashes of skin or provocative mini lengths. Instead we see lots of body-skimming ladylike dresses mostly reaching below the knees or even longer, with just one or two mini ensembles making an appearance, of which we especially loved the simple black stretch dress with lace-up and fringe detailing. It’s a modern and timeless staple we want to invest in right away! The printed below-the-knee length dress featured a lovely tie neck that was beautifully contrasted with the deep plunging neckline.
We always expect strong outerwear from the Olsen sisters and their Elizabeth and James fall/winter 2015-2016 collection also brought some amazing offerings with sharp tailoring and oversized silhouettes. The shaggy Mongolian lamb coat is for attracting lots of attention, while also keeping you warm and cozy in the cold months. “If I’m wearing a fur coat, I want to feel like it’s a fun accessory,” Mary-Kate stated. However, you are sure to make a statement wearing that knit car coat as well, which looks no less cool than the black fur coats coming in different lengths and shapes.
They also wowed with their new accessory offerings, wherein the bags are simply to die for. We saw a bold layered fringe tote, a black leather backpack with golden zip details, as well as a suede hobo, croc-effect roomy bags and ones featuring chain straps. The style icon twins once again managed to combine functionality with an exquisite style for their contemporary brand and we love each and every piece showcased here!
