Erdem Fall 2016 RTW Show Was All About Flower Romance

When was the last time you wore some Erdem? Erdem Moralioglu is a Canadian fashion designer born to a Turkish father and English mother, growing up between Great Britain and the French city of Montreal. His education was also in Toronto for some time, attending Ryerson University. Looking at his designs, we can easily see all the different influences, the intricate detailing coming from the Eastern mentalities, while the combination of Europe and North America leads to something truly majestic in fashionable speak.

Erdem Fall/Winter 2016-2017 RTW - London Fashion Week

Puffed sleeves, transparent materials, the use of dark colors, a whole lot of florals, the appearance of polka dots and so much else really create the list of top trends for the fall and winter seasons of 2016 in our heads. As ready to wear, we can easily see how one would go for these, though we know Erdem can design something better and something more. That red rose vine creation with the bone colored background and translucent mesh certainly would look great on us, covering up for the sake of decency but also showing off a good amount of the body and the curves. The main patterns used throughout though look like an abstract bull’s head. But that is too strange to even consider.

As mentioned, the ethnic certainly does come into play in Erdem fall/winter 2016-2017 collection on the London Fashion Week runway: we see the layered knits and embroidery of the dresses that fall with golden threading and remind us of crochets our grandmothers did for our tables, except of higher quality materials. There are the more modest looks and then there are the asymmetrical hemmed sunflower dotted ones, with a few plunging necklines that are sure to drive the men wild. There is nothing like embroidery and crochet, something that takes on a rather ethereal effect when actually worn by a woman, as a piece that is totally in style.

We also see a few slits up the thighs that help ramp up the sexy factor. There are, of course, the looks that are a bit too disappointing, but overall, the designs were superb and should be applauded. Combining cultures generally achieves some of the best results, which can easily be found through this Erdem line. The best look, though, is probably the black and white houndstooth pantsuit in tweed, with little fringes all around, even on the pants themselves.

As we have seen elsewhere, the ladies are given minimal makeup on the face, but there is a bit of contouring and the reds are nice and red. The red can be darker or lighter, while the shadows around the eyes can be near nonexistent or full out winged across the sides. The hair is pulled up or kept short, pinned into place with different barrettes, the whole thing from a pretty deep side part. There is no way not to love these looks, despite the English Season party atmosphere happening. We almost feel like we entered the modern version of a Pride and Prejudice tale.
