Ermanno Scervino’s spring/summer 2017 runway show during Milan Fashion Week was beautiful while maintaining a look that was both pragmatic and romantic. The feeling of the collection was very light overall and not just in color, but the materials and methods used. Silk organza, habotai silk and embroidered lace were a creative hint at lingerie without appearing to be nothing but transparent.
The inspiration for the collection according to Ermanno Scervino was put simply as “Beauty”. When he was asked to elaborate, Ermanno was able to respond only through a reiterated expansion of “beauty is the only thing that inspires me. Beauty with modernity but zero vulgarity!”
Ermanno Scervino has been described as a designer with old school manners and a charming and truly gentlemanly disposition, which reflects in his clothing. His techniques are intricate and his designs exquisite. A midi dress was made of lace that had been dusted with gold – the very description sounds alluring, meticulous charming and conceptual.
The overall color palette of the collection was incredibly light and delicate with gentle, calm shades of cerulean, white, aqua and hints of very light rose. The collection was very feminine, detailed and strong with a delicacy that was nearly fluid. The flow of the silk and lace was every bit as errorless as the overall design.
Many of the fashions shown on the runways this year featured elements of prior decades, with many of them tending to be more from the ‘70s and ‘80s. The Ermanno Scervino spring ready-to-wear 2017 collection had a distinctly ‘40s air with the stunning abstract floral patterns, asymmetrically cut dresses and diamante applique trimmed plunging necklines.
The pantsuits even have a flow to them that is undeniably feminine, with stunning and sparkling details added in near and on the lapels, accented with belts and with the hem of the jacket perfectly aligning with the cuffs of the sleeves. It is a beautiful presentation of unbroken dedication to an overall allure that is interwoven throughout every ensemble; they are a perfect balance of style and femininity, wearability and dreamlike aesthetics.
The sheer looks and lace pieces were see-through without being vulgar, but rather lingerie reminiscent delicate, immaculate and feminine. Look 11 was an absolutely stunning piece in the collection – a puff-sleeved mini dress with a floating silhouette and an embroidered chest that shimmered in the lights. The feel was very airy, with a grounding feel to the sleeves and hem.
Every piece conjured up an emotion, most of which was awe. The Ermanno Scervino spring 2017 ready-to-wear collection was upper level fantastic, beautiful and emoting without being heavy and overdone. This will be a collection that many will be vying for.
