Karl Lagerfeld ‘Made Waves’ at Fendi Fall 2016 RTW Show

The bright blue thigh-high boots at the Fendi fall/winter 2016-2017 show are the perfect reason to shop from the label… seriously. That hue is the loveliest seen yet for the fall and winter seasons. Karl Lagerfeld really outdid himself with the creations brought to life on the Milan Fashion Week runway today, with a rather interesting saying by Voltaire quoted with the collection: “Voltaire said, what needs an explanation is not worth explaining.”

Fendi Fall/Winter 2016-2017 RTW - Milan Fashion Week

His pieces do not need explaining. His artwork is self-explanatory. Waves were an inspiration, the waves of what exactly as of yet unknown. We can guess that it is a combination of real waves and sound, electricity and magnets, all pulled into a single 46-piece line-up. Lots of ruffles, lots of frills and a whole lot of flounce is what we see here on the runways, which Lagerfeld named waves. There seems to be something really bothering about how people tend to criticize the realm of fashion, to which he aptly responds: “We don’t overintellectualize—we just do! And we don’t suffer doing it!”

Some of the top trends known for 2016 appeared on the Fendi ready-to-wear fall and winter 2016 collection, from the thigh-high boots to the frilled tops and even more frilled toppers to the shoes, the yoked blouses and the fur around the necks. We saw wavy stripes and a whole lot of pleats, seemingly bringing in inspirations from Einstein and rather cool rich girls.

The new collection actually appears to be more like a fine spring day in the middle of fall, something which we have no problems with accepting. After all, spring promises fun and warmth, while the fall does nothing but whisper of upcoming bleak and miserable days. Then again, when the sun shines, the winter chill can be refreshing and the snow more fun to play in that the ocean at times. There was a whole lot of European in the line-up though as we saw puff sleeves and tunics and intriguing moments reminiscent of days long gone.

Perhaps even more interesting on the runway was the fact that Kylie Jenner appeared here once again opening up the show for Fendi. And while the sisters are both into the idea of athleisure, Fendi seemed to have pushed that aside, saying a pronounced no to the trend and coming out with its own unique designs. These designs also include ruffle play boots that appear like glaciers in the aqua blue hue.

There were a good amount of killer boots with liberal doses of ruffled leather and tapered heels with scaling along the legs. There were even garter ruffles on the thigh-high versions to the boots. Charming as they may seem, we are wondering if they are not a bit over the top.

As for the makeup, rainbow eyeshadows are huge for the fall and winter it seems, as one tries to add in as much color as possible while still blending into the masses around.
