Falling into unaccustomed situations and facing frustration, afterwards immediately reconstructing your concepts and fundamentals and dumbfounding the beholders with your audacity and boldness is definitely not for a standard personality to perform. Fendi, the 90-year-old monarch of fur and leather in the fashion world, should have experienced some difficulties while unveiling the Fendi spring/summer 2016 collection with typical-of-fall-winter materials, but when the fashion house is touched by the mega designer Karl Lagerfeld for even a moment, all perplexities instantly diminish giving way to brand-new ideas that are later to bombard the runway.
When asked backstage about the lineup’s cornerstone, Lagerfeld answered that it is slightly galvanized by the Victorian era and then we see his words gracefully actualized on the catwalk. The first thing that catches our eyes is the sense that the designer has applied a pump while crafting each ensemble forwarded to the runway, ballooning some sleeves, some parts of pants or skirts. That pumping effect generates poet sleeves, ballooned pants and shorts that were the elements of William Shakespeare’s style back in the Victorian era. Lagerfeld has managed to experiment with the poet sleeves making them short or long then installing them on leather, silk and chiffon and the result we see is a range of red, coral, Mexican pink, Zaffre blue, black and white pieces that come to be ideal for theatrical films. It is then braided designs that arrest our attention. A couple of dresses are featuring oversized pockets decorated with braided stitching at the hems, which are followed by maxi skirts with the same braided detail stretching down. The erotic part of the feminine body according to Lagerfeld is the waist that is peeping through intricate square cutouts noticed on some dresses.
“The designer would have crafted a series of warm exquisite fur coats should it be winter”, many of you may be thinking now. Spring just cannot be an obstacle for such a giant as Lagerfeld when he desires to do his fur coats. We see an intricate fur coat with multiple cutouts trying to create a mesh effect this way allowing your body to feel the springtime sunrays. Another black one causes some confusion to be a coat or a dress, whatever it is, your body will be just grateful to you for that refined and sultry piece.
The floral theme has embraced the Fendi spring/summer 2016 collection as well. An all-white super-mini dress with pumped effect at the bottom is all embellished with flower details; a belt decorated with flowers hugs the body of a model wearing a voluminous shirt with poet sleeves; beige-blue flowers are symmetrically arranged on the elegant top of a romper.
Skipping Fendi bags and clutches is hardly ever possible especially if they are being held in such an innovative way as showcased on the runway. For the spring to come hold your bag tightly, ignoring the strap and letting it swing romantically while you are strolling. That will be your first step for Fendi style adoption.
