Free People released its new catalog for March 2016, and it is bohemian sweet. This can be said about everything, from the dresses to the styling and even to the casting. Australian model and actress Gemma Ward was able to be herself for this photoshoot, and can be remembered by her classically cute and sweet features that make this retailer’s lookbook all the more memorable.
The photoshoot was aptly named “Blue Mountain Baby,” which worked to set the initial mood, even before any photos were viewed. It gives this idea of a natural, pretty setting, which in turn leads to thoughts of pretty clothes on a pretty model. The word “pretty” here may seem overused, but it seems to be the best word to describe the overall catalog. Because it is so simple and sweet, the only way to properly categorize it is by calling it pretty or lovely – anything more might seem a bit too strong for the showing.
American photographer Greg Kadel was behind the lens, and successfully captured Ward embodying the spirit of the brand. Each dress was given its best chance to stand out by capturing its shot at the proper angle. Each garment is a dress exclusively created by the retailer’s in-house labels, so Free People was able to show the best side of each look in this lookbook.
Off-the-shoulder dresses were plentiful and worked to embody the bohemian spirit. One was created in a frayed-edged thin nude fabric, while another was a thin white top of a dress with spaghetti straps at the shoulders. There was one top featured in the lookbook, and was also created as an off-the-shoulder garment. It mimicked the nude dress, but was white with embroidered flowers across the chest. Across the board, the dresses fell under the bohemian category, naturally, but differed in terms of style.
A burnt red-orange dress had Western design notes, especially being paired with a pair of cowboy-esque boots. On the other end of the spectrum there were dresses like a white one with a pale blue and orange floral pattern. The dress was made interesting by featuring a line of cutouts under the bust and at the knee. This brought a bit of an edge to the otherwise flirty dress at hand. A bow featured at the deep V bustline gave the illusion of a tie-top, but also kept things sweet and feminine.
All of the looks in Free People’s latest spring 2016 collection work toward one goal: keeping things interesting for an updated spring/summer wardrobe. Ward’s sweet personality worked with the Free People spirit to create a plethora of fun styling inspiration for the warm seasons, and this lookbook is a great start to begin the search for some great new seasonal looks.
You can find these looks for sale on Free People’s website, and the lookbook dresses actually come in different colors, so your perfect summer dress might be found. These aren’t the only stylish dresses for the season on their website, though, so if you want to find a great new look, you might want to set aside some extra time to browse the rest of their website so you can find your ideal match – or, matches, more than likely!
