Giambattista Valli, one of the best designers of the modern fashion world, is celebrating his Gambia line’s first birthday! And boy is it a celebration to behold. If we had to describe this brand, and particularly the Giamba resort 2016 collection, in reference to his 10-year-old main line, the effects are night and day in difference. Gambia is youthful, feminine and ultra-fierce for the most part, looking to grab the attention of a whole different population from the market. It has done very well and we love seeing the secondary line getting the attention it deserves. It is clear how much we adore anything and everything Giambattista Valli.
In terms of the Giamba resort 2016 designs, there is nothing better than a cheerful collection which draws on the natural feminine appeal and spews back a line-up that is simply too lovely for words. We see short shifts and ruffled rompers, both of which being young girl to mind but which work rather well on an adult as well. We see a whole lot of busy and colorful motifs, prints, which are accented with sequins and embroidery, looking pretty awesome with the images of cherries, lips, butterflies, ladybugs, flowers and rainbows all over. There was even a bit of provocation in there somewhere, with the cherry jacquard trimmed with silk fringe looking especially delicious. Bet you didn’t know that you can wear shorts, a top and platform sandals, all in the same cherry print either, did you? We would also have never thought that zebra print leggings can look this good!
If we had to describe what each of the designer’s 2 lines are meant for, we would say the main is for the gala, while Gambia is perfect for the after party. We would even say the latter is best for the morning after when you are having brunch with all those lovely new friends you met the night before. The resort collection aims to give customers a good array of choices come November when they begin to stock up on the resort: printed jeans in skinny and flared styles are so totally in, animal prints look awesome on cropped tees and sweatshirt tunics, and a feminine meets nasty gal style we are so very fond of. We find gorgeous little dresses, some in classic summer style while others in slinkier less defined silhouettes.
High necklines and shorter hems seem to be the trend Gambia is sticking to quite a bit, despite its few pieces that have a bit more of a plunging V on the chest. The pricing of the collection is not set to high or low, instead fluctuating back and forth. Each piece is worth every penny, from the ruffles to the floral prints, the party frocks to the shorter dresses meant for brunch on the beach. There is a series of maxi dresses, including a white one with ruffled sleeves that is shown off with macramé flower decorations. Valli’s a romantic and it shows through his designs rather nicely. We cannot wait to get our hands on some of these incredibly beautiful pieces come November.
